Coming Events

Post by ian Howell »

I first posted this item on wednesday (I think) but it seems to have been one of the items that were 'lost' during the Jowett.net 'outage'.

I'll try again.

Prompted by recent posts in this and other forums, I wonder if it would be helpful to post Coming Events likely to be of interest to Southern Section members here under this heading?

Ian Roxburgh has produced a list which was published in the April Jowetteer, but I think there might be other events local to our scattered members that could be of interest even if they are not directly involving Jowetts.

For example: -

I will probably go to Magnificent Motors in Eastbourne on the 5th/6th May as I live there, so not much excuse not to! This is on Ian's list.

Then there's also the London to Brighton Commercial Vehicle run on 6th May. I know that Roger Learmonth has an entry for his Bradford and anyway it is usually a great day out for all manner of interesting vehicles. Any excuse to show off! Jowetteers usually form a disorderly mob at the Black Lion, Patcham, on the outskirts of Brighton on the A23.

Here are items from Ian's list up to June, but if this strikes a chord with anyone, please feel free to join in by adding your own special interest or local events.

Please excuse the dots, it is the only way I have found to present the details as a table. I bet someone will know better!

... WHEN ............. What ....................WHERE ........................ CONTACT

May 5-6th ............ Magnificent Motors ... Eastbourne seafront ......... Jayne Howard, 01323 415442

May 6th ............. London - Brighton ...... A23 (See above) ............... N/A

Today (May 6th) was the second day of Magnificent Motors at Eastbourne.

Although rather a dull day it was at least mainly dry and there was a fair turnout, with a good variety of cars and other vehicles on show.

The Champions were there 'flying the flag' for Jowetts and John received an interesting invitation to an 'Invitation Only' event in Hastings. This will apparently feature only one car of each selected make. (John may post more details later?)

Picture to follow once I have 'shrunk' it! (I still haven't got that sorted!).

I hear from Roger Learmonth that he and his daughter Lizzie had a very satisfactory trip in the London to Brighton Commercial Vehicle Run and that Lizzie will be filing a separate report in Jowetteer. Well done to all three!

27th July 2013. Chorleywood.

Post by Forumadmin »

This year's event will be held around the cricket square on Chorleywood Common alongside the A404- the venue is booked for 27th July 2013 and we are confident it will be bigger and better than ever. I have booked some space for a JCC display, but please let me know if you want to come.
Contact Keith Clements.

----------------------
We ran our first very successful show in Chorleywood, Herts, last summer, with the proceeds split between Help for Heroes and the church (who provided the venue). We are running it again this year and have managed to secure a much larger display area at the same place. See: http://www.chorleywoodclassics.org/

You can see the extraordinary blend of exotic and eclectic that turned-up – and that’s before you walked around the car park. Most of all, it was a genuinely good day out, with good food, drink and no end of interesting cars to enjoy and fellow enthusiasts to talk to.

With the bigger space this year, we are inviting smaller, low volume, single marque clubs to – if they wish – add it to their calendar of events for regionally/locally-based club members to attend and display their cars, or simply to let members know that it is happening and that they are more than welcome to come. I would welcome your thoughts on this and whether we can make it happen to have a Jowett representation.

Tim Davis.

Following our successful trip to the Laughton Cuckoo Fayre, I have booked us in for: -

June 16th – ‘Fathers Day’ event at New Place Park, Framfield

Our hill climbing at Laughton doesn't seem to have done any lasting damage!

I still haven't worked out how to get a 'still' from my video camera onto my computer and thence here.

I shall persist!

Load video into Windows Movie Maker, then you can capture a still. You can also edit video and put the video AND still into the Gallery!

My 'clockwork' computer doesn't seem to be capable of accessing the video direct. (I must have words with Charles Babbage).

Good try Ian!

What an interesting video of the car. It looks and sounds teriffic.

If you'd have gone back around the bend and got a better run at it it's obvious you'd have come out at the top.

Whilst watching the YouTube link, I saw that you have another video of the car which is just as interesting:-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9f90XKfdjM

Will you be able to come up to the Bradford weekend? See my post in UK events below.

These two videos should be in the Pre-war Section as well.

Best wishes,

Tony

Please contact me if you want to come. We may have spare tickets, camping permits and car passes available. Come join the party with 19 Jowett taxi drivers and many Jowett display helpers. Wear your period costume of course.

Let me know which days, whether you are camping and if you will bring a Jowett.
Need to know by Monday.

I am sure it will be in the AGM Minutes, but worth passing on here the very public thanks from members of the club who attended and a formal thanks from our Chairman to Keith for organising this event and the opportunities it has created for the club.

Roll on 2014.

Jack.

I suspect there will be a proper write up in Jowetteer, but just for now the Section had a good turn out for the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run on November 3rd.

Among those present - and for once not uncomfortably cold or wet - were Ed Nankivell and Gislaine, Cris Freudenberg, Andy Stevens, John and Linda Champion, Ian Howell and son James and at least two others whose names I have forgotten - my 'umble apologies to those concerned.

Anyway, a good 'show' .
