ok,After alot of phone calls, measuring and getting frustrated. Know one has a answer to what shockers can be fitted to the of a jupiter. Ive called retailers/distributors and even manifactures.
So here is the answer--- Fit classic mini front shockers, and modify the bushes to suit.

Hi All,

Is the Jupiter fitted with rubber=bushed front suspension or the original metal-bushed type? The shocks are very different.

Indeed, the issue of shocks for Javelins (and presumably for Jupiters as well) has cropped-up at our club nights in the Severnside Section recently. Apparently, JCS cannot supply the rear shocks. Not sure if they have the fronts in stock.

As telescopic shocks are widely fitted to all kinds of classics and moderns, there must surely be equivalents available for Jupiter and Javelins?

Some folks have mentioned Series LandRovers as a source. Certainly Landy spares are remarkably cheap!

Has anyone a list of equivalents?

Many thanks,

David

I have not used them , but GAZ SHOCKS (web site ) offer a special build service for classic/ old cars . I recall Bill Locke offered me a pair of rear Javelin gas shocks ( not sure if they were GAZ ) but I never followed it up . I heard Land Rover were equivalent and once saw a boxed pair which quoted Jowett and Land Rover , which model I dont know .

I expect GAZ would need dimensions open and closed, brackets/attachments etc , worth a try . Do JCS have any? Bob

Also, Spax do a 'build to measure' service. These units are adjustable, so can be twiddled until you get the comfort/sportiness required. Spax used to (and maybe still do) provide the ability to give them the damper sizes and mounting information, then build you a set to suit (but of course, you need to measure the various dimensions on the old unit). I've used Spax for many years, and found they suit the cars very well for both competition and road use.

Mini front shocks work on a Jupiter but are not just right as you have a 3/8 shaft but the shock bush is less that this, in addition at 35cm length you have to fit them slightly "open" which reduces their efficacy.
Mansfield Shock absorbers Ltd supplied me with some 45cm long ones for my rear (Jupiter) which have 3/8 holes in the bushes(standard for most post war British cars) which are from some Rootes cars and these are OK for the Jupiter so would fit the Javelin and I now wonder if it would be OK to fit these slightly closed to the front as well as they are only £70 a pair and are made by Monroe
