I have been banking ideas for my Jupiter Bitza project - as the car will me made up from parts sourced from over 10 different Jupiters - therefore originality will not be a driving factor for the car - However, I do intend to build a car that will utilise the Jupes bodywork but with some changes (SC boot conversion for starters) so mechanically I had using the Jowett engine in mind but with a non Jowett 5 speed gearbox (Ford type 9 - Serria / Scorpio) but retaining the Jowett rear axle / differential.

Cooling wise I was planning on two in line electric water pumps at the bottom of the rad - sure you will use a bit more power - but I intend to fit a uprated alternator / battery as part of the build - so Tom rather than get into building a manifold and fancy pipework etc - why not just opt for two pumps ?

I talked with Gerald Palmer about the cooling system and he was disappointed with his design. The system was designed for the original smaller engine and followed the thermo siphon principle with pump assistance. But, before blaming the water pump, I would make sure your heads, blocks and radiator have no blockages. The Jowett system quickly blocks itself with sulphates and carbonates of aluminium and iron and any other metal the coolant can find. We took Nigel Hicks' engine apart and there were many lumps of mineral 1cm across in the block. The heads needed extensive cleaning and drilling out. No doubt the rad is similarly blocked, or, if it is not, would soon be once this gunge found its way up there. Personally I do not think chemical cleaning works on this stuff. A back flush would help but is no substitute for stripping and poking.

I very much doubt that that 90 litres per minute would be achieved with so much back pressure.
