Are you saying you have problems using the BBCODE with a picture you know is on the web?
The site currently does not allow pictures to be uploaded within posts. They can only be uploaded for use as an Avatar.
The technical reason is that the hosting service for the website has a memory limit of 8MB and the software I have identified for uploading needs 16MB to function. Now, I could run this software on Jowett.net (on my home web server) rather than jowett.org but that would cause confusion in the ranks and a little more work for me.
I am awaiting the release of some new software which MAY not need the higher memory limit. I have presurised the web hosting service to raise the limit but cannot get a date out of them.
Until I develop a better system please continue to email pictures and I will try to upload into your contributions section on jowett.org.
You then have to use those IMG tags to point to the URL of the picture in your contributions section on jowett.org. I know that is a bit complicated but uploading has to be secure as it can be abused.
As a newcomer to this forum, may I suggest that, apart from avatars, it is not always a good idea to add too many pictures (even where the infrastructure allows it) because they slow down the loading process for those on dial-up.

But seriously, some have commented on the lack of pictures, particularly when describing technical topics or selling articles.
The issue is how large should the files become? You can get fairly useful picture with 65KBytes.
One way is to use a hyperlink to the URL of the picture rather than using the IMG tag to include the picture in the page. That way you have to click on the URL to download the picture.
Currently each member can store pictures in their own part of JowettNet under 'contributions'. I have software to allow people to upload to the site but currently that only would work on the old site hosted on a slow link.
The slowness of some people's links is why I delayed introduction of the new site which uses much more complex pages and hence they are more resource hungry.
The 21st century has brought broadband to the majority of the Internet, but we must recognise that there are still an awful lot of slow links out there.

Regarding posting images, there is a free prog. called Photobucket available at www. photobucket.com to which one can add pictures as JPG files. These must be fairly small (forget the max size just now).
When I "submit" these, they re-appear on my screen with a URL and an IMG tag. These can then be copied and pasted to a forum mesage.
If required, I can add more detailed help.
