Jowetts for sale section back after a absence of a few months - there has been little fresh cars in the market to report but the improving weather has brought a few cars on to the market - there are still a few heavily overpriced Javelin project cars in the market that are unlikely to find new homes whilst stubborn vendors continue to ask several times the actual worth of the vehicle but there is the odd realistic price tag on a few of them.

The Javelin in Cambridge is in the 2008 register as E2 PE 24607, shown as a "D" but described as a Standard. Quite a late number..Bob

The Javelin located in Barking , Essex is reg NTT 517 , a Devon registration starting in October 1951. It is not in the 2008 register Bob

Not in my case !!!!

I bought the Caermarthen car. Auction was ended early because the seller was fed up with people committing and then changing their minds.

The last E- Bay seller didn't go through with the deal, so he got the hump and took it of sale. I bought it through a local ad. he had run.I was also bidding on the Grey car, but bailed out at £550 - that was all I could go to.

Further to Chris's post - if there is no reg number, the chassis number will be useful. Also, I wondedr if the engine number matches the chassis?

An 'R' at the end of the engine number means it was 'works' rebuilt with a late series crankshaft.

There is also a lot to be learned from simply the chassis number as the details of the cars changed frequently and are (fairly) well documented.

The number is JCJ 671 and on the DVLA register. I haven't received the documents yet, when I do I'll post the chassis and engine #s. Current V5 is also with the car.

That said, there are one and a half [ ?? ] spare engines and a spare gearbox.

The initial strip down and renovation was undertaken 2 owners ago. The body and chassis were repaired [ ? ] and the whole lot primered [ apart from o/s rear wing ]. The then current owner passed away and it came to the current PO via his widow, hoping that someone would continue the rebuild.

The car was driven into the workshop for renovation to begin, so I'm assuming that the engine and box were both sound.

All the removed parts are reputed to be with the car, with the exception of the headlining, door cards and the window rubbers.

Whilst you're waiting for the 'bumph', have a look at the chassis number (on a brass plate on the engine side of the bulkhead in front of the driver's position) and the engine numbers (on raised bosses on the front of the offside crankcase) on the fitted and the spare engines. The chassis number is also stamped into the top cross member near where the bonnet latch ''peg' is mounted.

Also, on the nearside of the gearbox there will be another number, not related to either engine or gearbox.

A 'J' prefix indicates it is a Jowett manufactured item (not always good news), no prefix indicates a Meadows unit - usually quieter and more reliable.

If you are in doubt about the original colour, remove the top pivot 'anchor' for the front suspension. This will reveal a 'tunnel' going across the car which is (never) accessed for other reasons and is therefore still the original body colour.

There is SO much to learn . . .
