Preparing for the national or longer journeys

Post by AlanBartlett »

Well with only 24 days remaining until the national I thought its proberbly time to start preparing the "lady" for her run up to Basingstoke. Any tips on anything I may need so far on my list I have, Spare oils for engine, gearbox and diff. A spare set of gaskets, sealant, water, petrol. Any aditional tools. Ive got the normal things like spanners and sockets which I generally carry any way. Also spare plugs, points and condensor..coil dizzy cap. Though its only 100 miles from here I just like to know i can hopefully plan for most eventualities. Though it is a Jowett, so we should get there at a steady pace. Also good breakdown cover for worst case scenario.

Alan - sounds like belt and braces for two short journeys in a thoroughly overhauled & well maintained vehicle. You could of course also equip yourself with spare
clean thunderpants in case you are in or have an accident and are rushed to hospital!

Seriarsly though you could go on for ever adding things like spare exhaust valve, wiper motor, light bulbs, layrub coupling, tyre leavers, puncture outfit and pump, fully charged spare battery ( in case dynamo packs up) spare distributor drive gears, exhaust bandage etc etc etc. and notwithstanding all that sods law could still prevail and something you havn't anticipated could fail. Not that your likely to need them but I would rate a tow rope and membership of a recovery service as being the only essentials for a short journey.
