It doesnt saay how steep the hill was but the ' truck tyres on the back wheel would raise the overall gear ratio. Bottom gear was unfortuately higher on the commercials than on the twin cylinder cars 19 to 1 on CC and 18.1 on the CB and retarts on anything greater than a 1 in 4 could be problematical depending on load. A better comparison is provided between the pre war c ars anad commercials with 19'' wheels . With the same 3 speed box as the CA/CB Braddfords the pre war 1st gear was 19.9 to 1 whereas the bottom gear on teh car 4 speed box was 22.6 to 1 which gave much easier hill starts. A similar problem arose with the first 'greenhouse' saloons 0F 27/8 which retained the relatively high vintage bottom gear anad had difficulty restarting with a heavy load on steep hills due to the added weight of the saloon body. (bottom a very high 14.7 to 1) Hill start ability was restored for '29 with a bottom of 20.5 to 1

Thats my vid :lol:

Its a CC Bradford truck. It had bigger size truck tires on it at the time. Also fitted with a 4speed gearbox with a low gear that wasn't as low as the original CC box.
That hill was very steap and that bit was the steepest part before you got to the top.
Dads CC Van had no trouble making it up there with 3 people in it.
The truck had more work done to it, dual carbs and higher compression.

sounds like it could do with an urgent Lobotomy!!

I have queried ( in the Jowetteer0 the wisdom or otherwise of using a relatively modern 4 or 5 speed box on a Bradford as such a box will inevitably have a higher 1st gear which would drastically reduce its ability to restart with a load on a steep hill. The pre war 4 speed box had a substantialy lower 1st gear than the Bradford and it will fit a CA or CB but not a CC
