Did IP phone forumadmin on the Javelin section because he's now on JowettTalk?

If so, is he willing to get involved with the Pre-war section???

Hi Tony,

I think it was a call in response to a call to JCS on Monday evening, Keith should be able to confirm.

Perhaps this is a good idea for the rally weekends though - those members of the club who are incredibly knowledgeable, we sit down with a laptop and run through say the top 10 topics in their specialist area, and type up responses to questions posed or useful info. We may not be able to easily bring Mohammed to the Mountain where club members don't own computers, but thanks to tablets, laptops and phones we can take the Mountain to Mohammed! This could easily be done in the bar before dinner one evening, and typically all the hotels we stay in have wifi.

It is a long running battle convincing our hard working spares guys to find time to play around on the Internet. At a couple of events we have shown use of JowettTalk, JowettGallery and Skype for improving communication between us. This was moderately successful but those who signed up often did not post anything much. Even getting some to read and then respond to emails can be a challenge.

There are many reasons or excuses why somebody does not want to communicate but there are no valid reasons why they cannot once they want to! :D
Some of our members have tried giving a computer to exec members, helping them set them up, giving instruction and helping them afterwards. But they do need encouragement to keep at it.

First try convincing people that email has advantages over the telephone in some respects. People can send emails to you when it is convenient for them and when the problem is fresh in their mind. You can respond at the time of your choosing, give a considered rather than rushed response and can prioritise your tasks without interruption.

Forums need a bit more encouragement as many are not used to sharing thoughts of what they think is in the public domain. They should be encouraged to think it is just like being at a club meeting and chatting in the bar. It allows development of conversation between people whom they may initially have thought would have nothing to say on the subject. They should have no fear of what people might think of their views. It is a Noggin and Natter done remotely! It is a way of making friends and sharing views with like minded people.

Of course, the general use of the Internet to find things out should not have passed many people by. But there are still many that do not use it as they do not think there is anything out there they need or want to know. Some people are just content with what they have. :?

Anyway we should all help anyone that wants to use these services, spark them into making their life more interesting by using email, the forum and the Internet. Crusader talk!
