Photo of a Jowett Special, Included in this set of 4 pictures of pre war cars, is pre war Jowett, the yellow one of the four. Taken at either burnham or weston, sea front. (I have a simliar photo of the same event.)

the special is a rather odd traansformation of a ?1938 8hp Jowett. I can remember it being around many years ago possibly at one of the Harrogate rallies. The 2001 register gives an 8hp 'sports' EG4269 owned by H Persse and the 2008 register shows an 8hp 'special' AJY509 owned by F metcalf. I have no idea whether the yellow one was one or other of these or something entirely different.
The low slung double drop 8/10 chassis looks ideal for a sporty special but unless some way of dropping the steering column cna be found the end product is not going to look particularly good alll Jowett twins being disadvantaged in this respect by the steering column having to pass over the offside pot. I have idly wondered whether a solution would be to raise the steering box by about 6 inches and compensate by making a new longer cranked drag link. My ''theory'' being that this would result in a more or less horizontal steering column and therefore lower steering wheel.
