Alan Bartlett WINS Classic Car of the Year
Congratulations to Alan - his 1934 Long Saloon has been shortlisted for the Classic Car of the Year!
Now we need to make sure everyone votes for him - voting closes on 28th September so please vote, ask your friends and family to vote, and share the details on social networks to maximise our chances of seeing Alan's car on the Bauer Media stand at the NEC in November (though with such a nice car I don't think he'll struggle we need to make sure!)

Remember this is free publicity for the club, our cars, we just need to get off our backsides and get online. Isn't it great to see a prewar car in the limelight!
Jack.

Re: Alan Bartlett Shortlisted for Classic Car of the Year
It's a good car, with a great history that really reflects what Jowett cars were all about - handing them on to the children (and grandchildren) to enjoy.AlanBartlett wrote:Wow I didn't realise I had, entered it a couple weeks back thinking id missed the deadline, but to be shortlist, has me actually lost for words.
Now get yourself onto Facebook, Twitter and anywhere else you can think of (member of any forums that you can ask to vote for you?), time to get everybody you know voting - the advantage of a 23 year old entrant!
I've sent a link to a few friends to ask them to vote, but it really is a numbers game - everybody needs to get all of their friends to do the same.

I have put a link on facebook, few likes, and few voters, so hopefully will have some effect. Just out of interest youve been through the process before what was it like winning? What did you have go through on the day? days after?

Alan - This is fantastic news - now lets get you shortlisted to the NEC - any help that you require outside of voting just let Jack / Amy / Myself know.
We need to ensure that every member / members families vote - Alan - it needs to be the first question you ask when you see anyone! 'Have you voted for me / the car' ?

Amy had to do most of the photos and going for lunch with the editors from various magazines and people from the sponsors, but from my perspective:AlanBartlett wrote:I have put a link on facebook, few likes, and few voters, so hopefully will have some effect. It now seems to work that if you get to the Top 5ish, then you need to get your car to the NEC to be on the stand.
Other than getting the car to the stand, they take a couple of photos of you being suitably chuffed about the whole thing, quite a lot of photos of the car, and you get to enjoy a weekend at one of the biggest car shows in the country for free, and various prizes depending on where you finish. It is not an onerous task at all, and very enjoyable for all involved - the people running the competition want popular cars on the stand, and are grateful that you have entered and brought your car along for them to have as an attraction. They loved the fact that nobody knew much about Jowetts, and the staff working on the stand had all read up about the cars on the internet.
After the weekend at the NEC we were mostly exhausted (as always) from spending a lot of time getting the car ready, but there were a few articles in the press about the car and the rebuild.
The other thing about the NEC show is that the Midlands section will be there, so you have plenty of people you know there already, plus we'll all be coming along, regardless of the outcome of the competition. I think if shortlisted you'll get a couple of tickets and accommodation for the weekend, but I've not read the small print. Even if you are not asked to come to the NEC show, it is worth going if you've not been before.
Out of the 20 cars shortlisted, I think they will have the top 5 at the NEC, so we still have a way to go, but hopefully we can all get behind you and maximise our chances. You've done the hard work entering and getting shortlisted, but there is still a bit more to do now.
If you need help with transporting the car to the NEC (not sure how you feel about driving it a fair distance at that time of year) I'm sure we can find someone with a trailer to help you out if required.
Jack.

Well done Alan.
Just a discussion point when asking people to vote for the car:-
You're allowed to vote for 5 cars, but ONLY ADD YOUR VOTE FOR THE JOWETT, don't click on any of the other boxes, otherwise four other cars will have a vote added to their total!

Well done Alen . I will tout for votes which of course can come from individuals with no interest whatsoever in Jowetts or any other old cars but will add to your score. Hope Alan Brielrley has managed to get something in the next Joweteer which presumably has already been put to bed.

Hope somebody has drawn this to Alan B's attention for a mention in Sep Jowetteer. I have just emailed him in case nobody else has although obviously he may well have put the Sep Jowetteer to bed already and the Oct one will be to late for people to vote .

I think the Sep Jowetteer will already be with the printers, sadly the competition closes on 28th September so the October Jowetteer will be out after the voting has closed. I can put a note in with the e-mail distribution list for the September Jowetteer, but this still only goes out to a relatively small number of people.george garside wrote:Well done Alen . As a result it is down to everyone to share the news by word of mouth - more and more of our members are online and reading the website, but we are up against clubs with thousands of people on their mailing lists and in Facebook groups. Let's all make sure we bring it up at the September section meetings and ask people to vote when they get home.
Hopefully by the November Jowetteer we will be reporting good news for the NEC show!

Re: Alan Bartlett Shortlisted for Classic Car of the Year
I've posted to all my friends, even my friend who's a Citroen nut! He's promised to vote for Alan! Also sent to my 4 grown up children. I think there may be a problem voting from the same email address on behalf of our other halves etc. but I could be wrong. If there's no problem I'll get Kathryn to vote too ("And what's a Long Saloon?"- just kidding!)
GOOD LUCK ALAN

It is safe and legal for them to vote. It is also safe and legal for you to let them use your computer. It is probably safe and legal for them to borrow one of your e-mail addresses. I don't think it would be safe and legal to make the decision for themgeorge garside wrote:of course we could increase the votes by voting on behalf of wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, children grand children, aunty nellies , etc etc if its safe and legal so to do! :![]()

I will admit in public that when we entered I asked my mother who she would vote for if Amy was in a car competition, and did the voting for her with her e-mail address because she might make a mistake. I think that would be ok.

Re: Alan Bartlett Shortlisted for Classic Car of the Year
Have just recieved this morning the phone call from Elaine at Bauer media, along with an email to say I've been shortlisted, quite an unexpected phone call as well. Though funnily enough I found out via Jowett Talk.
