hi all,
had difficulty selecting gears yesterday; the car did not want to go into 3rd. or top. I have been looking at the mechanism and the only thing I can see which might account for it is that the lower end of the column is able to move about 1/4" across the car when the gear change lever is moved toward the driver (selection of 1, 2 or R). The column lower end is located in a cylindrical hole aligned across the car with a bush and bolt in the centre. My question is: should there be a washer - it would be about 5/16" ID and 1" OD - inside the nut to prevent the gear change column moving sideways? Thanks in anticipation. John

Re: gear change mechanism
John,
The Jupiter gearchange is mounted solid to the chassis with a alloy bush which locates it. The Javelin is fitted with a metalastic bush in this area and also has a stay from the lower casting to the top of the bell housing. If the alloy bush is slack in the gear mechanism casting then a large washer to control any movement is required.
Trust the above helps.

Re: gear change mechanism
thanks for that, it may be I have some Javelin parts on my Jupiter. I need to look at some other cars to work it all out. Powderham castle will be a good opportunity.
