Re: Javein on ebay - 1947
This car, JSL659, is in the 2008 club register. It is D8 PA 357 S and in that list was the 5th oldest serial number. registered on 26/08/48. The colour was given as Green which has been changed as noted in the ad. The owners name at the time is given. A bit of history. The SL registration mark was used in Clackmanan Scotland , but marks from ASL to YSL were reallocated to other Authorities for age related issues. It seems likely the original number was sold or lost and JSL was reissued. Bob Lintott

Re: Javein on ebay - 1947
It seems to have been fitted with later front wings having the larger headlamps .The grill looks like the later cast alloy type with fewer bars and needs some fettling , the horizontal chrome strips right and left of the grill, and the valance beneath the grill are missing , maybe under "work to be done "? ADC was a mid 1948 number so strictly it is more likely to be a 1948 car rather than 1947 ? Even so condition looks good and impressive work done ? Does the owner look at Jowett Talk? Bob Lintott

Re: Javein on ebay - 1947
depends whether we are talking chronological year or 'model' year, the latter being the convention amongst manufacturers. Model year is therefore 1948 (D8) ( from Oct '47) The first bodies were , I think, delivered from Briggs around July '47 so I doubt if any were made as D7's. This is also indicated by car number 13 (D*PA))00013D being a '48 model . So it is definately a '48 model but could have been built in the latter part of '47.

Re: Javein on ebay - 1947
Interesting dtective work . I just noted that the seller actually describes it as a 1948 model so the 1947 must have slipped in somewhere in the Forum. Re car no 13, the earliest in my copy of our 2008 register, the registration series HLJ for Bournemouth began on 01/01/1948 so it could well have been made in 1947 but it looks as if all the cars were classed as 1948 models . I recall the Motor Show in those days was always in October or September and manufacturers generally showed their next year models which were then on sale before the calendar year in question. For established models ( not Javelins at that time ) the remains of the old year models were often sold off at a discount or set up as special models .
I think I went to the 1948 Show where such cars as the Javelin, Rapier, Morris Minor were on show . Bob Lintott

Has anyone the factory records going back before 1951? That would then answer when and where it was first registered. Noel?
