I imagine that a few of the old-timers will remember the rather unkind advertisement that Shell-Mex and BP Group ran in late 1969 and early 1970 in the UK papers.
I have just found a copy in my archives that I saved from that time and amazingly the paper has not yellowed too much. Unfortunately, at approx 15" X 12" it is too big for my scanner so I have had to take a photo of it which is not entirely satisfactory. A relatively small version is posted here and a larger version is in my Gallery here: TOPIC

Re: Shell-Mex and BP Advert - 1969
Interesting advert from 1969. The Javelin PKX was registered in April or May 1952, Buckingham CC, so was almost certainly a 1952 model as the caption says. I cannot find it in the 2008 JCC register.
It looks like a mixture, the grill is more like a Standard ,with levers at each end to secure it. But the bumpers are Deluxe, with a radio aeriel on the roof.
Incidentally Shell -Mex and BP was a joint marketing company of Shell and BP in the UK, It was demerged around 30 years ago so Jowetts, if not the one in the picture , have outlasted it!

Re: Shell-Mex and BP Advert - 1969
Somehow my original text got slightly scrambled. It was supposed to read that it "appears to be for sale at forty five pounds sterling".
I will leave it to others to comment on how that price in 1969 compares with Javelin prices today.
