Jupiter Roll Over
I expect I am not the only member who watched last nights Harry Hill on ITV's 'You've Been Framed', showing the video clip of the Jupiter flipping over during a competition event. I have seen it before elsewhere.

Re: Jupiter Roll Over
I have not seen this before and have no idea who or where or when it was. It is still available on iPlayer but I cannot record it except with a video camera.
I think car is number 115, driver is wearing full face helmet so post 1990?, location is UK or IoM or Ireland, is it NZ or Aus?. The car has the passenger side fully covered, no rollcage so not an MSA event with scrutineers.
The stop frame shot with the car upside down with the car 3 feet off the ground, has the driver with arms aloft , or downwards in this case, about to support the whole weight of the car on them.
The still frame as the car landed shows the driver's side of head scraping along tarmac before hitting kerb. How he survived is amazing.

Re: Jupiter Roll Over
If it is the Isle of Man then it would be Geoff McAuley in his SC, since long rebuilt. This would have been 1997 or 1998 I reckon. I believe the car was brown then, now back to its original Ivory.

Re: Jupiter Roll Over
Aye, I have to own up! It is indeed me on the IOM during a 5 lap pursuit, at the notorious 'Signpost Corner'. I was making a bit of headway on a Mini Cooper in front of me, but got caught out by the rear wheel slipping on a slightly greasy white line (The weather had turned a bit drizzley). The back end hit the high grass verge, which then swung the front of the car round, causing it to take off as if on a ramp. From then on, as Martin Brundle might say, I was a passenger on his way to the scene of the accident! As they say, when in danger everything goes in slow motion. I distinctly remember putting my arms out, but then remembered Frank Woolley doing the same when his Jup turned turtle - badly breaking his wrist. If you look closely, you can see that I retracted my arms just before impact. I ended up with a bruised hand - and a bruised ego
Poor NXH 709 fared rather worse and although knocked back into shape, she still bears a few battle scars.

Geoff,
Did your crash helmet have some scrapes on it?

Just a few - but it was fine after I'd filled them with a dollop of plastic filler.

Geoff or anybody, do you have a video of the incident that we can put in the Gallery?

Re: Jupiter Roll Over
Hi Keith/Alf,
I have a film of the incident (but taken from a different angle) on an official Manx VHS tape which I've copied onto DVD, but my player/recorder is 'DVD RAM' and I haven't got the wherewithall to copy it onto a more common DVD format. This is the version which has been seen many times on telly in various "Worlds Best Crashes" type programmes. It's also on at several commercially available 'crash' DVDs. The version shown on 'You've Been Framed' however, was taken by a spectator called Mr Bainbridge. His tel: number is 01223 351549. I think he would supply a copy, but will probably require a payment. I guess he will have extended footage of the whole event, which will include Malcolm Oliver and Frank Woolley. I haven't bothered since I've now got the YBF version of the accident recorded on my Sky Box.
Geoff.
