Could try asking the seller for the provenance to see if we can check its history.

A lump of brass that size is probably worth almost that amount as scrap!

Certainly looks like an interesting item, worth finding out how they came by it.

Seems a bit 'iffy' to me. Why 'the jowett car company' when the firm was usually known by the name' jowett cars ltd' - Also the shape of the plate does not resemble any Jowett logo - There may be a paerfectly logical explanation - but I can't think of one!

No Jack - A lump of brass that size is worth at most £20 scrap and if it's bronze £30 scrap - I too think it is quite dubious - there is no age colour to it - normally the back of casting like this would discolour over time and I doubt that the back of it has been polished - along with wording as George points out - I would leave well alone

Looks to me like it has been 'aged' deliberately. I agree, the wording and shape are not typical of the company.

A similar plaque appeared at Beaulieu about 10 years ago. It was inspected by a number of kmowledgable members and was considered as a fake for a number of reasons.

A similar plaque appeared at auction in Herefordshire about 2 or 3 years ago. I did not see it but was informed 'you could see it was a modern casting from the back'

Is this the same plaque or are there 3?
