Update of forum.

Post by Forumadmin »

For those of you who are interested, I intend to upgrade JowettTalk to the next major release of phpbb when it is available. This will include picture and attachment capability. See here for some of the changes. http://area51.phpbb.com/docs/features.html
There is no release date yet for the upgrade.

This will form the basis for collecting all Jowett related information together so that we can all share it. So start listing that which you wish to share. We can then organise who sends in what to reduce duplication of effort and to get the best copy archived.

We will also vote on how we want the archive organised, so put your thinking caps on and make suggestions.

The general layout now works well...
Maybe a section for "Special tips/tricks of the trade" that is common to all models?

And another for non Jowett stuff...like a good joke.

You may like to look at this site for ideas-
http://www.mgm-spares.co.uk/infodatabas ... riesmm.xml

Look at the clean way it is presents the timeline of models.

The interactive map is better than the one on jowettnet. Mind you that map is probably 10 years old.

I like the way spares can be searched. I had plans to allow the parts lists on jowettnet to be used in this way.

Any more offers of help?

Also a gallery, where members can upload pics of there cars...
Possibly divided into country and club sections???

A section for correct opitions/yr for each model for future reference for those building 'correct' factory cars...there is a thread covering setting up of such a reference

example here http://www.kakariki.net/modules.php?name=gallery

This can be setup using an addon module.
The difficulty with this is many web hosts do not support auto pic resizing on upload...hence why I run my own web server for the above web site.

A few tech notes on the above site
It uses about 1.5 to 2.2 gig up + down /month
Has nearly 500 members world wide
1500 to 2500 page hits /per day
runs on 3.5 meg down 512kb up, this is more than adiquate plus a bit of gaming, mail servers, general surfing, (5 machines on the network) plus 2 other small web sites and a pribate ftp file server.
