Shock Absorbers.
A 25% stronger all round setting is recommended for most tvpes of Competition work. As an alteration in the setting involves complete dismantling the Shock Absorbers, replacement by the stronger type is advised: these carry our Part Nos. : - .
Front 54385 (fitted as standard from Engine No. 16500
Rear 50467S (Competition)
The 1951 book has the 54010 type which was one with the rubber bump stop cup for the metal suspension not the later type without the cup for the rubber suspension. The 1952 book has J54470 but I have CD9079 hand written above which was an ammendment for the 1953 book.
The 1950 manual has extensive notes on how to refurbish and tune the shock absorbers. Possibly the fitting of different compression valves might account for different numbers. I suspect export models were fitted with harder B4 valves.
