Re: Cranleigh Lions Classic Car Show
I loaded Napoleon up this morning with a rather sleepy Jack, and we left early doors to meet up with Chris & Sharon at a layby off the M40 (classy eh?).
We arrived at Cranleigh at about 9.30 and joined a huge queue of classics of all shapes and sizes waiting to get into the classic car parking area at the show.
Chris and Sharon ahve ben many times before, but Jack and I were Cranleigh first-timers. It's organised by the local Lions club and I hadn't realised but it's obviously quite an event! We spoke with one of the organisers at some point during the day, and she said that they'd closed the pre-registration of vehicles once they reached the 1600 mark - we hadn't registered, but just turned up, and they seemed quite happy to just let us park with the rest of the classics.
I'll let Chris list some of the cars that were there, but they were in all shapes and sizes from Minis through to huge American monsters:

One of the more interesting was a steam-powered car, which was originally designed to run on kerosene and was belting round the display field at a fair lick! Sharon and I were rather taken by some lovely little Panhards; I particularly liked the gold lame braiding on the door cards. Still, with a 2 cylinder 850cc horizontally-opposed engine, an apparent fuel economy of 45mpg and cruising speed of 70mph, they seem like rather a good option for today's petrol prices.
There was quite a good autojumble there, and we spent quite a while picking through the stalls there. My star buy was a period accessory in the shape of folding binoculars, and an old Shell oil petrol can.
All in all, it was a very good day out, which I thoroughly enjoyed - and I think Napoleon did too
I think this may have to be an event that goes on the calendar for future years.
Mind you, I did manage to get a little bit too much sun, and I will be matching Jack's Jowett shirt for a while
Amy.
