Classic Car of the Year - Competition Now Open!

Post by Jack »

I have just had a quick look at the Classic Car of the Year site, and it looks like the competition is being run again this year. Another opportunity for massive amounts of very positive publicity for Jowetts and the club.

http://www.ccoty.co.uk/comingsoon.php

From this it appears entries will open on 1st April - worth us entering cars in as many categories as we can.

Do we have any interesting stories we want to share with the rest of the classic car community? Any big restoration jobs completed? Perhaps one for the section chairmen to talk to their sections about, perhaps put forward cars that should be seen by a wider audience.

The categories we can expect will be pre-war, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. It would be great if we can find some very early Jowetts to enter the pre-war category, a few cars from the 1940s and a few cars from the 1950s.

If anyone wants to enter, please get in touch or post away - I am happy to help with competition entry (this is really important), what kind of photos they want (also very important), and how to run a campaign to maximise the number of votes for your car, as this is all important once cars have been shortlisted. You may have noticed but we are rather good at this kind of thing :)

As we know, category winners are likely to be on the stand at the NEC, which is a great opportunity for loads of publicity, as well as putting Jowetts right in the faces of the editors and writers of the biggest classic car magazines in the country.

We should not miss this opportunity. If nothing else, entering 3 or 4 cars in every category we are eligible for would send a very strong message to the competition organisers and the general public when voting, and there is nothing to stop us entering a lot of cars into this competition to make sure we get at least one or two shortlisted.

Probably also worth mentioning the several thousand pounds worth of prizes available as well. So far Amy has received a custom made car cover, designer label leather jacket, free insurance for a year, and we have a huge list of tools and italian leather luggage on order.

Update - the competition is now open. http://www.ccoty.co.uk/classic_car_home.php

I have contacted Noel about putting together a list of potential cars that we have in the club, trying to identify cars for the respective categories and assist members to get their entries into the competition. We have loads of great stories that we should share with the community, and this is a great way to put Jowetts in front of the biggest classic car publications in the country, as well as the general public and other classic car owners.

Please contact me if anyone wants to opt in - note the only requirement is that you can get the car to the Classic Motor Show in November - entries from across Europe were seen in the previous competition.

Has a member of last years winning 'Team SC' - I also highly recommend having a go at getting your Jowett in to this event - it is a fantastic way of both you and the club putting 'Jowetts' in to the limelight and gaze of the general public. When we entered last year we had no intention of winning - we entered to give the club the publicity it deserves - we had great fun and winning was just the icing on the cake - we need to be getting at least one entry into each of the classes (although what we do for 1960's / 70's & 80's sections I am not quite sure) but that still gives 3 entries to the 1930's, 1940's & 1950's classes - do not be shy at coming forward - we have a team on hand that can advise & help - best of all you do not need a concours vehicle to enter - just a nice vehicle with interesting facts and stories behind it and you stand the same chance of winning as all other entries.

Actually a better chance of winning because you have the whole Jowett community voting for you!

Update - it is back, and the competition is open again! http://www.ccoty.co.uk/bgbt_home.php - Alan's car on the front page of the website, congratulations once again Alan.

After overall wins in 2012 and 2010, we have a strong record of getting our cars where they deserve to be, and WE NEED ENTRIES FOR 2013!

I have already been contacted by a couple of members, but to stand a chance here we need to make sure we put as many cars as possible in front of the judges.

Once they are shortlisted this usually goes to a public vote, where the obvious love of Jowetts shines through, but if we don't get enough cars entered to get one shortlisted we don't get a chance.

Please think about entering your car, asking your fellow owners whether they would be prepared to enter as well, and lets have another winner in 2013. It is worth entering just for the year of free insurance, but with everything else on top, plus the great publicity we get from this competition, it is critical that we all think about how we can get more entries and back our clubmates.

All you need is at least one decent photo, preferably three, and I can help with the writing bit to go with it - note that in recent years this has been the big thing that the judges seemed to like, so please ask if you want a hand writing 100 words that sum up your story.

PM or e-mail me if you have suggestions or a good story to share. Note that your car DOES NOT have to be a concours trailer queen to win, it is very much more about having a good car with an interesting story, but it won't hurt your chances if your car is a beauty!
