Javelin inner door panels

Post by paul wilks »

Hello. Have any of you had any success in 'livening up' those sad and tired inner door panels? I know that some members have had them recovered with new material but I don't want to go that far. Is there anything that members can recommend to restore their colour even if only partially?

Thanks

Paul

Paul,

Not too far from you is PJM - it might be worth a call as their pricing is incredibly competitive and their workmanship good.

A recover might not be as costly or inconvenient as you thought. When I went in they had patterns for Jowetts and have recently done Javelin seats and other interior parts.

Certainly worth a call, they will give you an accurate cost and turnaround time for the work.

Thanks Amy and Jack.

Amy, mine is a deluxe model but I always assumed they were not strictly leather but a man made 'leather type' of material to look like red leather!

Paul,
When I put the interior into my car a long time ago, I had a fair few items of interior trim,
My best seats were red and my best door trims and other bits were brown.
I sent a small sample of the brown off to Woolies and got a complete kit for leather and vinyl. This has worked very well. Only leather, as far as I know, is the bit you sit on and lean on..with the tops of the arm-rests. The colour for the rest is, I think, cellulose based and you can see the results when you and Bill come over on Friday.

Quite a nice satisfying job to do out in the Sun.

My Javelin is a De Luxe. The material on the doors was Rexine, which I don't think is available now. There is also a padded strip across lower down which is leather. The seats are leather on the upper seat surface and the front of the upright section. When mine was restored, Vinyl was used in place of the Rexine. My carpets were made by a Jaguar restorarion shop, and they also redid the inner door panels. When I took the old ones in for them, they looked at them and commented thatthey were made in the same way that the Jaguar Mk ix panels were.
