Re: 1936 Jowett in Germany restore
I need one joint for frame and leaf spring, you can see it: have anybody such a thing ? IMG_5344[1].jpg greetings from Germany :) Hi Marcel, Great progress, the body looks good, and should give you lots of momentum to keep going! The leaf spring joint is called a shackle, the prewar speciali...

Re: The Fate of the CD Bradfords
A few pics from Alastair's site, worth checking out if trying to work out which is which or which is missing. http://www.thegreggsplace.co.uk/CDBradfordPictures.htm I know of one CD in the UK, unrestored, and also there are a few modifications that were perhaps destined for the CD on the Javelin tha...

Re: Why Bradford by Jowett . Jowett Bradford
It was explained to me that Jowett after the war launched the Bradford but kind of distanced themselves from the flat twin commercial that was inspired by the success of the prewar cars by making it "Bradford by Jowett" instead of just a "Jowett Bradford" Then later when they rea...

Re: Geared Starter Motor Replacement?
Richard Gane put an article on something like this, it certainly looked similar, in the Jowetteer a few months ago. The main advantage was weight, but it wasn't a cheap unit from memory. Might be worth sending him a mail for more information, will try and dig out relevant Joweteer unless someone can...

Re: Oldest continuous member
Bill Purves was another contender when this came up at the Basingstoke Rally, I can't remember the exact detail but I do remember Tony and Bill cutting a 90th Anniversary cake. I might have had a few beers that evening. Edit - he wasn't at the rally, but I think Wes Meneely has been a member of the ...

Re: Jowett Kestrel Rebuild & Restoration
Hi Julian, Just spotted this on ebay, is this not the thing that is damaged on your car? Might be worth having even if the teeth have been built up with weld already - if they are worn previously it sounds like they get a fair bit of wear in normal use. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JOWETT-BRADFORD-8-HP...

Re: Farr bodied Jupiters
Hi Mark, If you are looking to get your engine and gearbox sorted out I'd have a chat with Richard Gane - he has a race Jupiter that had its engine and gearbox built by his engineer with some guidance and parts from the club, and if you want to get best performance out of your engine he may well be ...

Re: Corroded block
Hi Alastair, I'd get it welded before looking at other materials as an option. Any decent aluminium welder should be able to build it up neatly, with some careful grinding you will get the face right, and a dremmel will get the interior seal hole tidied up. Gut feel is that anything stuck on will ev...

Re: 1936 Jowett in Germany restore
I'm afraid I missed the rally again, as it seems to coincided with both my sons' birthdays each year, but I'd be very interested to see more details of the Swiss Rally. I haven't see this mentioned before. Is it a Jowett Rally, or more general? Barry Hi Barry, It is at the embryonic stage at the mo...

Keith, were you wearing your glasses when you checked amy's javelin?

Re: Alternate 5 speed gearbox
Both my Jupiters have well-repaired gearboxes. But one jumps out of 3rd on the overrun from 40 to 30mph, the other one now, a new fault, INSTANTLY jumps out of reverse, but I can hold it in reverse with the gear lever when I need to reverse the car Do I want to get the gearbox out every time one or...

Hagerty Classic Insurance - just off the phone with them to confirm the Bradford policy, and regardless of who the club officially recommends they are helpful, interested, cheap, and have incredibly useful features like the ability to drive any other Hagerty insured vehicle fully comp on my policy (...

Re: Pitman's Book of the Jowett
Well, the eagle has landed, and it is an interesting little book. Even the guys at work are a bit interested, and quite a few of them can't even read. Let me know if anyone wants anything specific from it, I'll try and get it scanned asap so we have the relevant data available to anyone that needs i...
