Changes to Login of JowettTalk.

You should have noticed that when you login you are taken to a new web page.
This page checks your membership of four of the Jowett car clubs - JCC UK, JCC NZ , JCCA and JOAC .
Current members of these clubs are put into the respective club group and also added to the Club members group.
If the email address of the JowettTalk user is not in any of the membership lists then the user is removed from the Club members group.

This means that if you previously had access to the Technical and Press Cuttings Library forums and the Magazine sections and Remembrance section then you might now lose access. This may be because your membership has lapsed or your email address has changed in the membership list and does not agree with that held on JowettTalk.

You can update the email address held by JowettTalk in the User Control Panel, just mouse over your username in the top right or click this link
Note you do need to enter your password on the webpage after changing your email address. You will also have to respond to an email sent to you to enable the account. This checks you have access to the email account whose address you entered.
If you have any issues please contact me.

JowettTalk has been going for 20 years providing communication between members around the world and building up a valuable store of information on Jowetts. JowettTalk aims to encourage membership of an affiliated club.

I will also be working on improving the integration of member services so they can be accessed via JowettTalk login.

Currently the services provided are
  • A search of the Archive which is a collection of documents attached to posts in JowettTalk. These may be from posts contributed by individuals such as the technical notes contributed by Mike Allfey, the magazines produced by each club since 1960, or the press cuttings.
  • A search of the jowett.net and jowett.org website accessible to the public.
  • A search of the Jowett Video Library.
  • A Members' Map for each club except JOAC.
The latter is only available to members of the respective club and only after additional identity validation.

Emails from JowettTalk

Over the week all JowettTalk users should receive an email.
They have been sent out in groups.
1. Registered users (212) who have not logged on.
2. Users who have not logged in since 2015 (258).
3. Users who have not logged in since 2019. (231)
4. Users who have not logged in since 2022. (176)
5, Users who have logged in since 1 Jan 2023 but have never posted a reply or started a topic. (57)
6. Users who are not a member of either JCC, JCCA, JCCNZ or JOAC (61)
7. Users who have logged in sometime over the last year and posted a reply or started a topic.(99)

One purpose of these emails is to prune the user list to remove users whose email address is not active and might be a security risk.

Other aims were to encourage users to log in, contribute and to join a club.

Club membership may be important when conversing with other users. At the moment it is important to realise that the JowettTalk club groups are not definitive for any user because until the user logs on their groups are not updated. But if you are responding to a post that the user has made then their group membership should be approximately correct. Note this is not the Member of Club information which comes from their profile and is what they entered at registration, but the groups shown in the drop down list when you click on their username beside any post they have made. You can also find the user's profile information by finding in the Members list via Quick Links.

The membership lists available to me in Jan 2024 were used (except for JCC which is taken from the on line data updated by the JCC membership sec). So users may not be in the correct club group due to delays in the manual process or to incorrect email addresses.

There have been some good responses so far!

Deletion and deactivation of accounts.

I have so far deleted 69 JowettTalk accounts whose email addresses are no longer accessible and whose users have not posted on JowettTalk. If those users wish to post on JT they will need to register again. This is probably easier than the user trying to find their username and password and then change their email address. There is a possibility that inactive email addresses can be re-used by others, so this is a security precaution. Many of these accounts are over 15 years old.

There are another 63 accounts with bad email addresses whose users have made posts. These will be deactivated as it is likely they will not be used again. But I am giving users a couple of weeks to update their email address when they login. Of course, they will not have received an email but there is a faint chance they will login or read this message. When the accounts are deactivated, the users of these accounts will not be able to use their accounts unless they contact Forumadmin who can then reactivate the account. This is probably easier than the user trying to find their username and password and then change their email address. Once deactivated the user will not be able to register using the same username or same email address. Such accounts are ones whose users have made some posts, and these posts will be retained. The user will not appear in the Membership list.
Update 26th Feb: 33 of these users who have not logged in since 2015 and 13 of these users who have not logged in since 2019 have been deactivated. There are 6 other bad emails since 2022 who are not currently club members who will be deactivated.

The reason for doing this is that users may try to send emails (or Private Messages) using JT to these users and wonder why they do not get a reply.

Some users who requested their account to be deleted have been persuaded to continue even though they may have sold their car, are getting old or who are not in a club. You can use JowettTalk to recall memories of your Jowett and share them with the younger generation.
