Have a good look at jowett.org and read the 'Read Me First ' tab.
Then go across the other tabs in the top menu.
The spares page only displays the items that are new or on special offer and is a copy of the spares page in the magazine. The page currently displayed was from December but you can find all (both previous and the latest) by going through the back issues of the Jowetteer. viewforum.php?f=77
Virtually everything should be available either new or used, so just email spares. Also contact your section sec as some sections hold spares hoards.
There is a lot on the website which has been going for 23 years, so has been developed in stages. To find what you want follow all the Menu items presented to you in Member Services, look at all the sections and sub sections of JowettTalk and use the various search facilities.
So what is on the website?
The aim of the Jowett Library is to provide members with everything that has been published on Jowetts and present it in digital form. It relies on contributions from its users.
1. All the club magazines are, or will be soon, on the website. All 60 plus years of them, not only from the JCC, but the other Jowett clubs as well.
2. All the press cuttings about Jowetts. If you have a cutting that is not there then you can add it to our collection.
3. All the manuals printed by Jowetts and some other relevant manufacturers of components.
4. Reports and pictures from Jowett events from the last 30 years.
5. 20 years’ worth of conversations in the Jowett forum about many diverse subjects related to Jowetts. Your question has probably already been answered! If it has not, then pose it and it will probably be answered within a few hours.
6. Day by day reports on the restoration of many Jowetts with thousands of detailed pictures.
So how do you find what you want?
Google can find some of the information, but the Forum, Library and Archive are not shared with Google. Go to Jowett.org and use the search box to see what is publicly available to Google on the website.
To search the forum you need to register to use JowettTalk. Your registration will be vetted and an email sent with an account activation link which you click. You can then login and use the search facility. JowettTalk has various sections (called sub-forums) that are themselves split into topics. You can search the whole of JowettTalk, a sub-forum or a topic.
Some topics may have attachments such as documents or pictures. These are not searched by the JowettTalk facility and require the user to use the Archive Search facility. This can be accessed via the Jowett.org home page but you must either be logged into JowettTalk and be a member of the club or currently have a session running with Member Services. To get a session with Member Services you need to register. The system sends you an email with a link to activate your account. You can then subsequently click on the link sent to you by email to access the Services and enter your chosen password. From the tailored Menu presented to you after you login you should choose Search Archive.
Note that registration and login are different for JowettTalk and Member Services. JowettTalk uses a username and a strong password. Member Services uses a key (link or token) sent by email to your email address registered with the club and a simpler password (if you choose).
All the club videos are also on the website. These have their own search facility accessed using Member Services. There is also a list in a topic on JowettTalk.
Indexes do exist and are posted in some of the topics. There are ones for Jowetteers, Flat Four, Jowett publications collated by Ted Miller, and the technical publications collated by Mike Allfrey. But usually it is easier to use the search facilities outlined above.
If anyone wants to help collate, index or add to our heritage then please contact the webmaster.
