Inlet manifold needed for 1925-29 engine

I am still looking for a 1926 (ish) inlet manifold for my short two, I have two but they have both corroded on the face where it mates to the heads.
1926 manifold
1926 manifold
A specialist welder could not improve the situation either, the castings are too fragile.
I heard some new ones were recast few years back? if anybody knows anything about that or who did the casting then that might be a route for me to follow.
I'd consider a complete engine if the manifold was good.

Thanks
Gavin

Hi Gavin,

Provided you have enough material on the flange to provide adequate support for the manifold, could the corroded area be built up with chemical metal and file/lap back to shape. I am contemplating this on a carburettor I have, but I have no experience to share as yet.

Hi John,
the substance of choice for this is 'Devcon' and in most circumstances it is very good, you can drill and machine it. The problem here is that there is a combination of water, heat and vibration as well as need to tighten the manifold nuts down to a gasket and the face. It works for a short while but then lets you down big time. My short two is a trials car so needs to be very secure. Its very frustrating because the car has been off the road for 18 months now and anecdotally there are good manifolds out there.

Hello Gav(in).
Perhaps a little precis of why you need a manifold, much like you mentioned in your post, and a 'wanted' advert in the club magazine, might just reach
the wider membership, although I believe there's also a Facebook page about Jowetts.
Cut off date for the mag is 12th of the month.
