Hand brake Rod

Hand brake wasn't working well. Twelve clicks to the fully on position instead of the recommended four or five. Thought this looked an easy fix. Not so. On turning the connecting nut the rod sheared where it entered the nut. Took the rod off the car by unscrewing it from the front cable. Decided to remove the connecting nut from the front end of the rod but the rod sheared again where it entered the nut. On looking at the connecting nuts, it is clear that the thread on the cable end is larger than the thread on the rod end. Could anyone tell me if this is how they were originally made. Has anyone else experienced this problem. I am hoping that JCS can provide a new rod and connecting nuts. Will find out on Monday. Cheers, Tim Fellender

Always a good idea to put penetrating oil on such assemblies. Also make sure you are turning the nuts the correct way as sometimes the threads may be left handed and opposite to normal.

Many thanks for the replies. Just figured out my mistake. Tried to turn the nut and not the cable. Will get it right eventually. Once again many thanks for the replies, Tim
