Jacks

Trolling round the internet looking for info to refurb an old trolley jack, I stumbled upon this web-site: http://mgaroadster.co.uk/vehicle_jack_index.htm
It is a mine of information. They have listed the jack(s) for javelin and Jupiter, but not Bradford.

Now does anyone know what jack was actually supplied with the vehicle? Or any other tools for that matter?

I've been corresponding with the creator (Steve Gyles) of the excellent jack website for a couple of years and provided him with the info on the Jupiter & Javelin jacks. Not being a Bradford owner, I was not able to help Steve with info on the Bradford jack - hopefully someone out there has this info.

the Bradford came with a small mechanical ''bottle'' jack. I don't know what make it was but it wasn't specific to the Bradford as it was used under the axle not a speific jacking point

definitely not Bradford. The Bradford jack was a common screw type bottle jack with cast iron body as used on many makes of vehicle. Other tools included, tyre pump (hand operated) wheelbrace , grease gun, oil can, axle filling nozzle, tyre leaver, adjustable spanner, spanners 3/16 x1/4, 5/16 x 3/8,5/166 x7/16. screwdriver ,pliers, ignition screwdriver, box spanner 5/16 x3/8, tommy bar, spanner for gearbox filler, spark plug spanner.

You are 100% spot on David, according to the internet, that's a '72-'78 Toyota Pickup jack.

currently on ebay several jacks similar to Bradford and certainly of correct period although not sure if exactly same as Jowett issue

'old car jack lake and Elliot midas £8.50'
'Dunlop 15cwt vintage car jack £12'
'vintage shelley 8 inch car jack'

Yes, there are lots of jacks out there, more than you can shake a stick at. But the real question is which one or ones were actually supplied with the vehicle. To produce on the scale that Jowetts did, they must have had a regular contract for supply.
And as time marches on this information will be harder and harder to track down.

I might also add that this question could be directed at the rest of the tool-kit

Does anyone have pictures of the 'official' tools as mentioned by George, particularly those of the vintage (i.e. pre-1930) period?

I suspect that there may have been a variety of items depending on price /availabilty.

In particular, I would like to see a typical wheel brace. I guess a bit similar to the Javelin items but possibly more primitive?

This is the Jack and wheel spanner, plus tool kit that came with my Bradford. No idea if its the original article or not !

can't be certain but lit looks very like the original jack and toolkit and is certainly of the right period
