It would be interesting to find out more about this car . If made in 1950 as stated , why was it originally registered as MLJ200 which is a 1952 registration ? It appears to be a deluxe --dashboard , rear number plate , but does not appear to have the side rear armrests . The bonnet badge is an early type , as is the front grill.. It may be one of the 14000 cars which were partly brought up to 1952 spec at the factory but were made in 1950 ? In fact it looks to be in reasonable order . If anyone visits , have a look at the brass plate on the bulkhead for the car number ? Bob

This car until recently was parked in the drive of a residential property in Stroud, Gloucestershire - first spotted by myself in May last year - according to the neighbours it had been parked there at least 10 years +, it looked fairly solid when I last viewed it but it's a great shame that it has been parted from it's original registration number and the A prefix number it has now been issued with will more than likely devalue the car - so if someone wants a bargain project Jav - this is the one.

The auction blurb says the Jav has been dry stored.Was it under a carport or covered when on the drive in Stroud? Today I am getting the Kestrel ready for a Trial on Sunday,looks like it might be muddy so more grip required! Nigel.

With that car number it cannot be a 1950 manufacture,it is a 1952. The original reg no quoted MLJ 200 is also a 1952 Bournemouth No. However the bonnet looks pre 1952 and the interior is not quite Deluxe but it could have been part restored . Might be a good car ? Bob

I am always pessimistic when any classic sells cheaply, because it always smacks of a scheme to get the registration from it. However, with an "A" suffix it looks like this one lost MLJ 200 a long time ago - before the introduction of the age related plate scheme. I think that means current plate is transferable, though an "A" surely cannot be worth much. If MLJ 200 is not on something else and identity could be proved then the car might get the original number back. If restored to the original number this then would then not be transferable. Arguably, this gives a vehicle a bit of future security in these dog eat dog times. In any case I would have expected a new owner might get a more appropriate age related plate. As always it is to be hoped that the new owner contacts the club because if the number does get changed it might disappear off the radar again.

It is always possible that a note from our membership secretary and a membership application form sent to the auction house would be sent on to the new owner . In fact whenever a Jowett appears a form should be sent to the seller ..Bob

MLJ 200 is on a Toyota rav 4, so presumably was transferred years ago when the Javelin was in a road worthy condition.

ALL Jowetts that appear within the retail market and at any auction house are sent a JCC information pack personally by myself with a polite request for the information pack to forwarded to the new owner - it is a policy that I introduced over 2 years ago - Chris

The registration number on this car now is * LJ ***A-- the image on the website has been removed-- which was probably issued as a replacement for the original in the late 1970s. The transfer was made by Bournemouth Council and the rule then was that A and B suffix plates should be used for such replacements . Bournemouth started regular issue of letter suffix numbers in 1964 , which were letter B,so would not have issued A numbers (for 1963) regularly at the time . This was away of avoiding the new number itself becoming an attractive item !
At the time the selling of numbers was an emotional , class, privelige etc matter and it was banned for some time under pressure from Trade Unions in Local licensing offices . There are still mixed views on the subject and complex regulations in force although the revenue earning potential eventually carried the day.
The only way to recover the original number in this case is to buy it from the Toyota owner or if it is sold on the market , from a trader , cost could be ca £1500 at a guess.? However other less attractive numbers are available on the Elite Registration website , such as PYJ 420, quite respectable , for £350 + VAT, fee etc .
Still no explanation as to why it is described as a 1950 Bob

I have been contacted by a gentleman in Slough area who is interested to buy/restore a Javelin currently for sale in Wraysbury (area subject to Thames flooding so not sure if this is reason for sale) for £2000.00 From description as a car with an ------A registration this would appear to be the same one as that sold for £750 at auction in October ? He was put onto me as a 'nearby' club member to see if I could look at it with him. I have warned him that at this price level even without view a fair bit of restoration will undoubtedly be needed. However he is a toolmaker by trade and seems remarkably enthusiastic......
I am otherwise tied up and/or overseas until Mid April so unable to help before then , although he thought he could put a small deposit down to hold it for a while.
If anyone else is prepared to talk over what they know of this car with him I am sure he would very much appreciate it as he doesn't know Jowetts, plus if anyone can help him before I can find time.
