JOWETT CAR CLUB INAUGURAL MEETING RE-ENACTMENT
The re-enactment of the original inaugural meeting of the Southern Jowett Car Club (from where the club directly traces its roots) shall take place on Sunday 25th August 2013 – using the same location and route. The Titsey Foundation have kindly offered to host us in their nearby car park, the plan is to assemble in the walled garden car park at Titsey Place for 12.30pm – once assembled the route from Titsey to Croydon will re-enacted with the cars then returning to Titsey Place (in all approximately 15 miles)

Titsey Place has a wonderful period tea room, superb gardens and one of the finest country houses in the UK (great excuse to wear the period outfit again if you have one) – The woodland walks are also stunning.

So a great opportunity to meet up and exercise your Jowett whilst marking & celebrating the 90th anniversary of the club, in the grounds of fantastic venue.
There is no cost for attending but the there is a fee for the house & garden tours should you wish to visit them.

Titsey is accessed from either Junction 7 or Junction 6 of the M25 – then take the A25

Travelling along the A25 between Oxted and Westerham, turn into Limpsfield High Street.

At the bottom of the High Street where the main road turns sharply to the right, take the left hand turn into Bluehouse Lane (look for the small, brown historic house sign). Then after about 250 yards take the first right into Water Lane.

Pass under the M25 and turn right at Pitchfont Lodge and follow the signs to the Car Park by the Walled Garden.

The August 1923 report of the Titsey Hill run mentions visiting Park Motor Company, Jermyn Street for a demonstration of the new fangled radio. See this supporting article http://archive.commercialmotor.com/arti ... pair-lorry. Tomorrow we may well go past this spot to recreate the run.

I do not think the eastern entrance to Titsey Place is open so the run will be circular around the estate to take in Titsey Hill.

I hope you all had a successful and uneventful re-enactment run to Titsey Place yesterday.

I was with you in spirit as I flew the flag at the Hellingly Festival of Transport. About 800 vehicles there. No other Jowetts that I could see but a lot of interest in my 'project' - still minus its fabric cover and interior!

I may have missed Ian Roxburgh's 'KAM' although he is listed in the programme. Perhaps today? . . .

There may be a Bradford lorry in a tatty but possibly complete state coming available soon in the Gosport area.

A gathering was held on Sunday 25th August 2013 to commemorate the inaugural meeting of the Southern Jowett Car Club - from which the club can directly trace it's roots - the original event took place on the 26th August 1923. We were aware that some 40 Jowetts gathered at Titsey Hill nr Limpsfield in Surrey (some 90 yers ago to the day) . Titsey Place kindly allowed for us to their car park & facilities - a small selction of cars gathered - some of us took a tour of the house & superb gardens, whist other members caught up with each other over a natter. We then all headed off for a trip up Titsey Hill - Tony Goldsmiths short 2 taking it in its stride, after a short circular tour around the Titsey estate / Oxted we reassembled back at Titsey Place - fantastic cream teas / cakes were enjoyed in the period tea rooms - the sun beamed down on us and the public showed great interest in our cars - in all a great afternoon of Jowettering. Of great surprise to us was the attendance by George & Nezley Dawson who were over from Australia both members of the Jowett Car Club of Australia (Nezley is editor of the JCCA magazine ) In holding the event we have a discovered a little gem in Titsey Place and I have no doubt that we shall be holding further events there in the future. Thanks to all that made the effort to attend - I hope you all enjoyed it and arrived home safely - special thanks to Keith Clements for his help in advising members of the event and help in organising the Titsey Hill run.

The run we actually took having found out from the Titsey ticket man that the road I had intended to take was closed was this https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Unkn ... 4&t=m&z=14. I was volunteered to lead the way as the maps that I had printed were now useless.


Anyhow the road was quite interesting nevertheless, going up and down the escarpment of the North Downs sometimes along a narrow, wooded , twisting and bumpy road.

Apologies from Amy and I we couldn't make this one - the small matter of a friend's wedding in Croatia (with a modern car driving them to the service!) which meant we were thinking of you all but sadly a long way from Titsey Hill on Sunday. Great to see a few more local cars as well as friends from the other side of the world!

We have already had quite a bit of contact with the press regarding the Reunion and commemorative runs, so hopefully everyone making the effort to turn out for this as well as other events will result in more positive publicity for the club and the cars.
