Another interesting Javelin. As D8 PA 1018, it is a 1948 car not 1949, very likely registered in late 1948. MPJ 95 is a Surrey number , MPJ being first used from 01/10/48. It is probably a Standard car, despite the DeLuxe rear bumper and front grill which may have been later additions. There is no D on the brass plate , I am not sure about the facia and trim.?.
It is not in the 2008 register, the nearest D8 numbers are 969 D and what is shown as 11064 but could be 1106 D or 1064. The first D9 ( ie a 1949 car) in the register is 1430 D. in Part 2.

In 1948/49 I don't believe Jowett's offered Javelins as Standard or De Luxe. That came later. You could buy Javelins in one standard of trim, but with different seat trims. By 1950, Jowett's introduced the Standard and De Luxe versions.

David, Interesting article . Reading between the lines the upshot is that it is very difficult to be sure by looking at individual cars whether it is a deluxe . I assume 1948 cars are covered by HB's 1949 description, and so all should be the one model.

However , our Javelin register lists D8 and D9 ( '48 and '49 cars )and 1950 cars as D or S indicating there was a choice then . Is it true that on the brass plate the suffix letter D is included but not S ?

I have the Jowett Cars Ltd Technical Information book which has all the modifications listed by car or engine number of introduction from D8 PA 100 to item 125 of December 1952. For instance the new cast radiator grill was fitted to all models from engine no. E0/PC/15631. Unfortunately the body number ,which must be different, is not given so we do not know when the change over took place except that the technical item was issued in May 1951.

In November 1950 Item no 33 announced the introduction of the 1951 Javelin from engine no EO PC 11326 ( not the body No). Larger headlights were fitted to all and the DeLuxe model ( introduced at this time ?) described the rear no plate box etc but no reference to the walnut facia, just that a pair of ashtrays had been let in to the upperface of the facia.
