Much discussion about many things was had last night by the assembled Jowetteers on the Danish trip. One that sparked me into comment was the reluctance of people to share information about equivalent parts. Our aim should be to keep Jowetts on the road and not try to make money or gain an advantage from keeping information to ourselves. The Danes have a marvelous sharing culture, sharing facilities, skills and their space with others.

So from New Zealand, the Jup midship bearing is a Toyota front wheel bearing, so which model and what part number please ?

From the US, the Javelin rear door handle is a Healey 3000, so any recommended suppliers and what about the front door handle?

Please add your equivalent parts in this thread and we may organise into a more searchable list.

There is such a list in "The Jowett Owners Handbook" produced by Bob Jones and the East Anglia Section in 2001 see page 148 (151 in pdf reader) 'COMMON PARTS LIST'.

From August 2014 The Javelin.

Door handles the same as Sunbeam Talbots,
Overriders shared with Austin-Healeys, MG TF's, Wolesleys and Morris Oxfords,
and headlights in common with Jaguar Mark V's and XK120's.

Also in that edition a treatise on how Perkins bearings are converted for Jowett use.

I think Ben Shaw told me that the chrome strips on Javelin bonnets are VERY similar to the same item on Austin A50's. Anyone know more?

So, MGA starter bronze bushes are the same as Jup/Jav, but just listing things on this thread doesn't help much. I agree that the time is at hand to build a knowledge base. Jowett had so many models over so many years that this will be a bit of an effort. Perhaps the JCC tasking a committee and collecting info using the annual banquet is a starting point?

I would add a note detailing if it is an exact replacement part, a correct replacement if modified or a "horse shoes and hand grenades" close enough. An example is the Triumph Herald door trim in stainless steel used for the bonnet trim on the front of the Jupiter. IMHO, this is the last category.

I agree with Scott and indeed those categories are in the lists I have seen. The other problem is that lists are soon out of date as even the equivalents become out of stock. That does not stop them turning up as new-old stock or autojumbles of course. Even some second hand bits may be better than what you have got.

It is also worth noting newly discovered sources of things , such as Layrubs found by an American in Britain via the Internet. We just need to share such info. and not just leave it to the hard working spares teams to get it for us, although organising the buying power of the clubs might help bring the price down.

I know JOAC are going through a spares review on Jupiter bits. The first thing is to find out is what is needed, then what is available and then what is not available. Then figure out what to do.

Surprisingly none of those questions can be answered easily, mainly because people have different ideas on quality and cost. Examples such as making out of stainless and not brass then chrome, modifying for improved reliability or performance. Every part ends up a lengthy discussion.
