Classic Car Show, NEC
The Midlands Section went to town for the Classic Car Show at the NEC in Binuingham on 4-6th November. In my opinion, our stand looked very professional and more attractive than any of the other stands. The background boards adorned with Jowett advertisements that were provided by the JCC last year, plus the new carpet and the plants supplied and specially potted up and delivered to the stand by Lucy Oliver, made a superb setting for the display of Jowetts from the 1 930s, ‘40s, and ‘SOs; we had a 1934 Flying Fox, a 1948 Bradford ‘ and a Javelin and Jupiter from 1952. We had leaflets, old Jowetteers, and members’ application fonns at the ready. Hundreds of visitors called at the stand; one notable visitor was Sir Stirling Moss who, along with his wife, spent what they described as a very enjoyable thirty-five minutes looking at, and talking about the Jowetts on show, and signing autographs. They particularly liked the Jupiter in which they sat and posed for photographs. Stirling’s mother owned a Javelin, and there were lots of happy memories for him when he examined the one on display. We had numerous enquiries regarding membership, resulting in two newly paid-up members. We also had enquiries about the possibility of purchasing a Jowett. The Jowett Shop did well, making sales of over £240. Bill Lock, Gordon Cooper, Roger Sanderson. and Malcolm Oliver, plus other members who maimed the stand and undertook chauffeuring duties, can be proud of their efforts. and we think that the JCC can only benefit from displaying at such a major exhibition. I wonder how many others there are who, like me, now find themselves regretting they didn’t make that last little bit of extra effort to be there. I know I do - and I also know the responses to my foolish neglect... -Ed.)
Section A.G.M.
The AGM was held in November at the Bull Jim. Atherstone. Bill Lock accepted
the role of Chairman, Les White continued as Vice-Chairman, Peter Tribble is our newSecretary, and Roger Sanderson was voted in as our new Treasurer. Committee members are Malcolm and Cicely Barker, Nancy White, and Christina Tribble. We need all members to give the Chainnan and our new committee all the suport they can in order for the Midland Section to flourish.
PLEASE NOTE Due to some members having to travel long distances, it
was decided at the AGM not to hold a meeting in January.
Future programme
On the Sunday, 12th February 2006, the Midland Section will be holding our Annual Luncheon. This year we have opted for a more adventurous menu, and we will be meeting at The Courtyard in Higham Lane, just to the north of Nuneaton, at 12.30 for 1.00. The Courtyard is a cosy private restaurant set in a tastefully converted barn, and it is run by a highly creative and talented team of caterers (even our own ‘Galloping Gourmet’ Roger Sanderson. got turned down for a job there!) There is good private parking. We have the exclusive use of the venue, and we have a minimum
of forty diners and a maximum of fifty-five. There is no licence, but we are quite welcome to bring our own beer and wines - there is no corkage charge. Please look at the menu, and if you would like to join us contact Roger Sanderson on 02476 383463. or e-mail rhsanderson@nospamaol.com - an early booking is advised! -Les White
