Javelin Bonnet Badge on ebay - Beware Rip-off

This ebayer seems to be convinced that the bonnet badge is worth hundreds of pounds.
His previous auction failed to sell at £200 for the badge, he has now decided to advertise on auction.
But check out the postage cost, with no option to collect. Beware this - if you buy it for £1, it is going to cost you £200 to get it.

Personally I find that kind of profiteering pretty unpleasant - the price looks reasonable, you bid without thinking about it, then spot a ridiculous charge like that. Avoid.
Jack.

Only if you buy it can you leave feedback. In fairness to them, the information is there for all to see, but the auction is not what it seems at first glance. I know many of our members are fairly new to computers and ebay, and wanted to make sure they didn't get fooled by it.

Hello Jack, I have one of these, not perfect but reasonable for free, can bring it to the Rally if you want it for your Jav. restoration,
you should be well into it by then.
Regards, Alf.

Hi Alf,
I *think* we're ok - there's two bonnets in the garage and I think both have badges intact and in reasonable condition. Thank you very much for the offer though - I tend to keep an ebay vigil periodically searching for Jowetts and parts, just in case a bargain or particular parts come up that we might need. Wanted to flag this up to avoid anyone getting stung by sharp practice.
Jack.

I am sure that there used to be a way to report an item (which there stillis!) but I recall that one of the reasons for a report was "inappropriate shipping fees" - seems Ebay has discontinued this, so keep alert, looks like Ebay now condones this sort of activity.

Hi Peter,
I'd ping Alf a note above - if you are at the rally in May I'm sure you will be able to come to an arrangement in the bar

Like most of us, I'm sure he'd be happy to know it was going to a good home, if his isn't available I'd suggest the spares section - they seem to have a lot of parts and panels for Javelins and should be able to bring one to the rally.
I checked ours today, and it is in good condition, so we don't need another.
Jack.

I see that this charming chap has listed his bonnet badge yet again. His action in charging for P&P at such a rate is in direct contradiction to E-bay Selling Practices and Policy; Quote ...... "or to charge unreasonable fees for postage and related services" ...
I too have sent an e-mail to e-bay Customer Support.
We all know of course what his game is, but it is not on, and not in the true spirit of e-bay. This kind of practice lowers the image of e-bay and is just the sort of thing that puts some people right off the whole business. After all he only has to state a starting price if he wants to guarantee getting (or not!) a certain sum.
Ah well, the world's full of *****oles!

I have followed suite with Tim and the others and also reported this to E Bay - so anytime now it should be getting removed from the site.

Steps have been taken! The listing has been removed. This from e-bay ; (slightly odd english!)
Thank you for your email. I appreciate your effort in sending us your
report regarding the seller 'minor-miracles' who was charging excessive
postage cost for item 190505673803.
Rest assure that we don't permit users to charged excessive postage for
an item. This is clearly avoiding in paying eBay fees or misused the
reserve price feature to avoid paying reserve listing fees.

We have investigated your report and I can confirm that we have taken
the appropriate action. Privacy is a priority at eBay at all times so
we're not able to share the details of the actions we take. They can
range from issuing the member an informational alert, a temporary
suspension, an indefinite suspension or terminating the member's
account.
Bear in mind that not all of the actions we take are visible to other

As always, my goal is to help you with your concern as quickly and
accurately as possible. I wish you the best of luck in your future
