Also converted oil pressure gauge to electric as old one leaked, from numerous joins.

Next step, brakes mechanisms were gummed up with old grease & expanders tightened so much they could not centre.
They now seem great.

Throttle spindle renovation.
I hope your throttle spindle renovation works. I found the first problem was accurately centreing the drill as the bore was worn unevenly. The second problem is that the new butterfly will not be bedded into what is certainly a worn body.
You should not be able to see any light through the carb when held up to a strong light and the throttle closed. Even a glimmer will let too much air through and probably not by the metering hole.

Re: I should know better at my age
My starter was a bit noisy, I found the bushes were worn, brushes almost shot & commutator worn.
Result was new bushes, new brushes & my best commutator.

Where did you source your brushes?
I am eagerly awaiting you setting the carb up on the engine!

Re: I should know better at my age
I started the old girl up, & found fuel leaks at the carb.
1st issue was the banjo fittings, I had to replace the fuel pump one with a barb, then the carb with my best banjo & new washers,
This cured that problem.
Second issue was the emulsion block was leaking,
This required sanding on a sheet of glass to smooth 70 years of corrosion & over tightening, now it is fine.

Controversy corner.
I added some bling to the old girl, however my daughter thinks the hubcaps are nice but beauty bands at garrish. My son thinks the bands give it a hotrod look but the caps are old fashioned.
I like both.

Re: I should know better at my age
The brushes and bushes were purchased from a local MG parts supplier who gets them from MOSS. The part numbers are:
Brushes: 149-000 or GSB102
drive end bush: 148-600 or 7H5049
commutator end bush: 131-325 or 47H5340

Re: I should know better at my age
One of the dangers of having a son with an engine analyser is they want to analyse their Dad's Bradford.
The results are manifold vacuum is only 12 inches, most engines are above 16, are Brady's being two cylinders allowed to be lower?
Between around 1500 & 2000 it seems to run far too rich for a cruise mixture. The burn is less efficient than at 1000rpm. Above this range when the throttle is opened, it leans out to 3% CO which is ok. Putting a smaller compensating jet caused backfiring on acceleration. The thought now is that it's an idle or progression circuit issue since the throttle is barely open at this point (zero ported vacuum). When it is above this range, the throttle is open enough to have ported vacuum.
Any ideas?
See attached exhaust readings.
1800rpm: 1100rpm:
Cranking amps shows even compression:
