They are already TOPIC there in the Gallery!!!!
Note that Jen's special blister treatment was 'on hand' and used by Amy on hands and Jack on feet. I just put surgical spirit on mine to harden them up. I am joking, every night last week I was doing my exercises moving earth into the vegetable beds.

Tonight was spent re-laying (badly) the path and cleaning it with the pressure washer, filling in the last bit up to the path and leveling any bumps, moving much from the patio ready for Jen's birthday party, and Jack came around to remove the rear shelf so we could fix a leak from the petrol tank.

The parallel with the Great SC Rebuild is uncanny. Then the garage was built to accomodate it. Similar quantities of rubble were moved then, if not more!

Oh yes, the only blisters Mr Spencer could possibly get were on his derriere, sitting in his cosy cabin whilst we suffered torrential rain and heat exhaustion. He occasionally emerged to take tea or watch the F1.

Keith & myself found an afternoon yesterday where we could trim the sides of the excavation for the new workshop extension, manual work this time - the side wall of the excavation being 2 metres high by 10 metres long - using shovels & mattocks we manged to trim it all back although the flint at bottom third of the excavation was very hard going. We also leveled much of the base out - life was made very easy by the loan of a rotating laser level from work - just place the staff on the ground and the receiver indicates how high / low or if you have the correct level. Quite a bit of the material taken from the sides of the excavation went to fill the low spots in the base - we just have to complete the base now ready for concrete. Plan is for a damp proof membrane then 50mm of polystyrene insulation then 100mm of concrete - with the base being 10 x 3+ metres we will have to pour it in two sections to allow for expansion - plus we are mixing on site so you would not be wanting to mix all of the base in one go - getting the 10 ton of materials the 150 metres from the drive at the front of the house to the site at the bottom of the garden in wheelbarrows is going to be a challenge as it is!

Some more information through from Drummond:

1) When it was collected from Batley it was fitted with Jowett factory made rear light clusters which comprised of the following. Each side had two Javelin metal light bases which were cleverly moulded together and finished with filler before painting. Both holes were to accept 461/1 light units. One took a unit with a red lense (Stop & Tail) and the other took a clear lense which had been dyed orange (flasher)

2) It was fitted with a heated rear window.

3) The deal to buy this car was negotiated between GM and George Green at Jowett Engineering before going down to collect it.

Nice idea Rob, and in my day job I deal with the transport of materials on a lot larger scale than this with equipment of somewhat larger in scale - but to be honest by the time we have arranged the hire on one of the power barrows - had it delivered and all the faff - we can have the job done by hand - and to be frank - the team need the exercise !!

Not now we don't. After a week of using all spare time shovelling and carting earth we could do with a rest. Jack and Amy finished off the pit this evening whilst I visited Jen in hospital. You may like to know Jen is doing better than expected and is just starting to be able to talk and had her first walk today after her major surgery last week.

A afternoon of activity on Saturday got the shuttering erected for the retaining wall foundations - the damp proof course for the retaining walls installed - the ballast collected from the drive - decanted from the 1 ton bulk bags into 30 / 40 kg sacks and loaded to Jack's estate car then driven round to the garage hence saving lots of wheelbarrow work - concrete mixed in the mixer by Keith and laid / leveled to the foundations by me - Amy took orders from Keith as usual - but we got the job done and it's a little more progress.

Little more progress on the new workshop - with block walls laid two courses high on the corners of the foundations - Jack & Keith moved more sand / brick & blocks off the drive and around the back to the site - only a few hours spent though as other Jowett themed events got in the way - Keith & Amy will be along to post on the activities of the weekend.

Yesterday saw Chris and myself complete one wall so that now I can start to build the steps down into what Jack calls 'the swimming pool'. Amy and Jack are busy packing ready for their move to their new residence, but they did pop in to fill the garage with some furniture and pick up the house painting tools.

Update, after a busy few weeks, including a holiday (finally) for me and Amy, everyone managed to get on the case today working on the garage extension.

The walls have gone in over the last few weeks, Keith and Chris have been busy getting the blocks and pillars in, so this week we were ready for the big pour. The floor is a big area, large enough for 2-3 cars (with plenty of room either side) so we had a job on our hands.

We started early, by noon everybody was hard at work :) But after having shifted 3 tonnes of ballast and used every last shovel of it, we have now done 2/3 of the floor, there's only a bit more to go next Saturday before we can start on the structure and the roof (rather critical we get that in before the winter!)

So now my back hurts, my hands hurt, my arms hurt, and my legs hurt just a little bit.

We are working hard, unfortunately no real updates on the cars at the moment, but we are getting there with the garage so that we have a lot more room to get everything done and will have enough space for the projects that we have got left to do over the next few years.

Jack.

Another day mixing concrete by the team. Chris, Jack and Joe helped and managed to lay the remaining slab. Altogether about 8 x 850kg bags of ballast went into it.

Perhaps we can get the roof on next weekend.

Yesterday evening under floodlights I finished the wall beside the alley ready for the panel to be slotted in. I also finished the wall beside the door frame. Today Joe dug some of the remaining steps out which I completed, apart from a little pointing. This evening I put some lights into A&J s bedroom, so was crawling about in the loft. Just waiting for my reward, some Cassoulet done in le Crueset.
