We watched it too. Quite something to watch - his ability on a bike is something else, and the settings very well thought out.

Perhaps we need to share any non-copyrighted footage we have with Youtube - currently searching for Jowett results in a fairly small number of videos, which means less links with other videos, less reccomendations, less people coming across the cars by accident and sticking around. It would be good if we could expand on some of the videos that are finding their way there, and make sure that they feature the make and model wherever possible to help with searches. It will be important that we retain copies of these things within the club, suggest we use the gallery to do so, but having them saved in another place is a useful backup if nothing else.

We could have a really interesting series on there - viewers will tolerate amateur quality footage, because ultimately that it what we are - and we might just find a classic car enthusiast looking for "classic car engine rebuild" comes across our club and sees a club they can relate to. One which is embracing the internet, communication, and change. That is exciting for young people. It is exciting for me, and I'm not that young any more!

It occurs to me that we work very hard to engage with the major classic car publications, but actually a lot of the potential market is one we can access by just putting stuff out there. We don't need a magazine to publish an article - we can publish a video that makes the same point just as well. The audience may be different. The promotion may require more work than us just handing images and articles to magazines for publication, but it is in our grasp.

As with Ken Block, the world is talking about him and excited about him. He has people whose job it is to deal with the thousands of media enquiries he gets every month. Wouldn't it be nice if we had more people knocking on our door as a result of the online buzz about our cars, and the only way to get that is for us to be creative - the other benefit of the internet is that we can throw dozens of ideas at it, and whichever one sticks is the one that everyone will see, share, and talk about.

Jack.

On the subject of Danny 'Mac', He bought something fresh and new to the sport, mountain bike trials as a community like us is international, but still has a small following. Before he came along the sport was very set into two basic catagorys, competion (Tgs, taps gaps and sidehops) and street levels of riding (a free flowing mixture of riding). He introduced using tricks from bmx riding on a 24 inch bike. which got him noticed through youtube(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z19zFlPah-o) the first video which made people take notice. which then got him on to biggger things, now sponsored by many big name brands. which along with this encouraged others to join in and have ago and keep adding change to the sport.

Which in relation to the club and younger people we need to some how get out there and make the club appeal to a whole new generation like jack has already said. We need to perhaps freshen up the club with the help of the internet. Some people are already doing this, if you do a quick search on youtube for jowett, you can get a handful of people tinkering around with jowetts, starting them up, driving them on the road, or around tracks. Its good to know that there are people out there doing this, we just need to increase the activity and appeal to get them noticed. if the more we get out, both online and in the real world. Then hopefully it should get us more notice from possible new members. Also on the subject of uses of the internet, we are already using forums and video uploads, but how about blogs the day in the life of a jowett owner or something like, liven it up with some comedy thrown in, to take the edge off it just being about the cars. Come in from a different angle as it were. I know alot of young people who enjoy top gear, well most people i know seem to watch it which has a mix of comedy in it along with its fact giving of the latest cars. Well how about throwing a bit of fred dibnah crossed with top gear, keeping the old with a bit of new added to it. Well just few ideas to think about.

I critically assessed the film maker's role and technique in each project, trying to see how they made what to many might be a boring, uninteresting (to some) bike ride, skate board, BMX stunt, or free run into an educational, or artistic, or thrilling (or all three) story. This is how they converted me to look and learn about something I, personally, had no (or more importantly) negative desire to watch. Thus reaching out to a new audience.

One movie maker who was not interested in the sport made a great attempt to reach that new audience with some captivating editing and mixing. See if you can guess which one. Perhaps that is what we need, someone not interested in cars who will produce, direct, film and edit?

Another team tried a story line which was, in my view, risky and not effective, although a classic way to put together a film.

One team pulled together the ballet in the sport to make a strong point to displace and cross the 'older generation' pre-conceptions. Perhaps we could do it the other way?

Hmmm . . . . let's see now: -

"all mixed and edited by some very creative film maker "

I seem to recall that Alan Bartlett did a final thesis / dissertation or whatever, involving creating a documentary type presentation.

Alan: - do you have any spare time these days (Only kidding Alan, I know the answer - I just wanted to start a discussion!).

Seriously though, do we have access within the club to people with these skills AND the time AND the will to exercise them on behalf of the Jowett community?
The devil is in the detail!

I like your idea of a film. It does not have to be a documentary type, as Alan produced, but any sort of film. Let’s face it Jupiter’s appeared in a number of films in the fifties. OK they were not big box office winners. As you say, Ian, Alan Bartlett did a college project some time ago so he and some of his friends could do the direction and editing. Now I know there are a number of our club members the have sons and daughter that have done a performing art course at college and am sure we could find some professional and amateur thespians within our mists.

If this was done well, which I am sure it could be, it would not only promote the club but could also be the spring point of some young club member to mega stardom. Now just think of the coverage the club would have got if for example, Brad Pitt’s, first film was produced by the Jowett Car Club Films. OK, we might not get any new members, perhaps 2, but think of the coverage either on general release as a support film to a major film, plus of course viewings on YouTube.

The only real trouble if Jowett’s got a lot of publicity we could have our badges stolen as happened to VW because of some band many years ago.

Anyway with this idea in mind, with clever camera angles, stunt teams, special effects, creative music, lighting effects, sound effects, a good production team, some good acting and actors and extras, some good props and costumes what are the possibilities?

How about the following as a proposal for a general outline. It will need padding out a bit and scripting,

The Film

‘Jack wins in the end’

Staring: A Jupiter and a Capri (a white 3litre one)
featuring: Jack, Amy, Chris and Keith
and special guests the Capri Owners club

Scene 1 – At a local car meet
Jack and Amy are at a local car meet where jack is trying to convert some hardened Ford Capri enthusiasts of the merits of a Jowett Jupiter. As you would expect he is not getting very far, until a couple of Capri owners challenges Jack and Amy to a race. Jack having had a couple of beers duly takes up the challenge without consulting with Amy. A venue is agreed where the race can take place after which both parties say there fair wells and head home.

Scene 2 - At the race venue some time later.
The first race is between the girls racing against each other. This is not a specifically interesting race as Amy knows how to handle a Jupiter and makes a flying start leaving to Capri behind. The girl racing her boy friends Capri is up to the same driving capabilities so Amy wins the race very easily.

The boys now prepare for their race. Jack is proudly sitting in the Jupiter at the start line as the Capri pulls up alongside. The Capri is sounding very powerful! Jacks revs the Jupiter, just to show that he means business. The lights go green and there are off. The Capri leaves the starting line in a cloud of tyre smoke and as it clears we see Jupiter and Jack slowly moving forward. However, Jack wakes up and starts to race. He puts his foot down and the car shots forward. It is not long before he starts to gain on the Capri. He is taking the bend much fasted than the Capri but is left behind on the long straight. On the final lap the Capri over cooks it on the final bend and spins off the track into the gravel. Jack at this point is able to nip into the lead and crosses the line as winner.

The camera pans to Amy, Chris and Keith to see them waving in excitement that Jack has actually won. The camera moves to Jack who realising he has won also starts cheering and waving. This is the point where Jack ability to break things comes into his own! He looses control of the Jupiter and on correcting the Jupiter slams it into the pit wall. The car spins and in so doing throws Jack clear and onto the race track. The camera then zooms from Jacks position to Amy, Chris and Keith to see their joy and jubilation change into shock and horror to the events that they have just witnessed. The camera now shows Jack sitting on the track with his back to the Jupiter still spinning and rolling in the background. The camera now moves to the car position and zooms onto Amy, Chris and Keith as they start to run on to the track. Amy is in front followed by Chris and lagging behind is Keith. On reaching Jack, Amy jumps over him, Chris jumps over him but Keith stands on him as he lies on the track, as they all proceed to the car. The camera now shows the Jupiter all battered and misshaped with Amy, Chris and Keith crying over the car and fondly stroking it.

The camera now looks down the track to show the ambulance with flashing lights coming. The ambulance drives round Jack who is still lying in the middle of the race track and stops at the car. The crew get out and with the help of Amy, Chris and Keith load the car onto the ambulance. Once the car is loaded and securely strapped the ambulance crew get in while Amy, Chris and Keith get in the back. The ambulance drives off.

The camera now shows Jack all covered in blood as he try’s to sit up. He looks around him and can see nothing. He slowly struggles to his feet and hobbles across the track to where the Jupiter came to grief. The area is covered with broken glass and flakes of green paint. It is at this point that he decides he might be in a little bit of trouble. Very cleaver of you Jack! He slowly hobbles back to the pits to find them completely deserted apart from his car.

Scene 3 – Jack gets home
The camera shows Jack getting his key out of his pocket to open the front door. But he is to slow. Amy has been waiting for him! The door flies open and Jack is met with the wroth of a bereaved Jupiter owner. Jack is not so stupid though. He allows Amy to throw everything at him. Amy quietens down and at this point Jack produces from behind his back a bunch of flowers with a label saying ‘I Love You’. Amy smiles and turns into butter! Well done Jack you know how to handle a women!

Scene 4 – Keith’s Garage
Keith and Chris have the Jupiter in bits again, the clock says 1.00am. Sweat is poring down both their faces as they work hard to rebuild the Jupiter. The air is blue! Jack is nowhere to be seen. It would be too dangerous for him!

Scene 5 – Jack and Amy’s home 1 year later
Everything is nice and peaceful. Jack is sitting at the breakfast table eating his cornflakes. The kitchen door flies open and Amy walks in with the two newest junior Jowett car club members both screaming and making one hell of a din requiring the attention of mummy and daddy.

My that's some imagination Peter - we will have no trouble with the costumes - Sharon my other half is a specialist costume producer - (just finished a several year stint on the Harry Potter films along with several others) - we would need a title and several come to mind - 'Jack and the rivet gun' is a classic - and it's a true story - just ask Jack - it will help if you hold your ribs in when the laughter starts as he retells the story !!

I have a Facebook "presence", but seldom look at it let alone actually use it . . . . it all seems boring and a bit inane to me. Who needs to know if a "friend" you hardly know has just had a cold shower because the flatmate used all the hot water! . . . or so-and-so's got a hangover etc. etc.
There does seem to me to be a "collectors of friends" competition going on . . . . I must say that the title of "friend" is not given lightly in my case . . . acquaintance or associate is more the category I would give to most who want to add me to their list. Then there's the ones I don't even know at all . . .

Maybe I'm not using it right!!

Having just returned from a fortnight in Devon, i'm playing catch up with 'Talk'. I'm surprised that no response to Peter's 'script' from the Clements/Moon quarter has been forthcoming, which leads me to ask are they out employing an agent???
