Capacity is not important, it is throw of the sender arm. Since this is a pre-war I doubt if the tank is similar in height of either. Anyway you can alter the guage by judicial movement of the magnets to get it to read what you want. The only issue may be hitting the bottom when empty, so then suggest bending of arm.

Re: Orginality Queries
Does anyone have a picture of the inside workings of the horn/dipswitch in the middle of the steering wheel? As ive going through all the electrics again for the mot, i was wondering if could get this working again as when was on the road previous i had the dip switch on a toggle switch, would like to see a complete one to see if im missing anything from mine.

Do not know about the pre war; but could write a novel on the Javelin re-incarnation.

Re: Orginality Queries- Pre-war horn/dip switch
Hello Alan.
With a bit of luck there should be a few pix of the horn/dip switch below.
Tony.
Cannot add another attachment, 3 is the maximum.
P.S. The system tells me that I can only attach 3 items, so if you want any more, email me and I'll send them back by email.

Re: Orginality Queries
The best place for this sort of info is in the Gallery; possibly via the Legacy project. If you put all the pictures and comment in the gallery in its own album then it is easily referenced , updated and improved as a useful record and resource. But if you just want to share it quickly then just add another reply to the Topic. Please do not email privately as this does not share with others.

Re: Orginality Queries
Had a go at putting the photos in the Legacy section of the Gallery, but there are so many fields to complete that I got rather confused, so I aborted the whole thing.Forumadmin wrote:The best place for this sort of info is in the Gallery; possibly via the Legacy project.
Anyway, there aren't that many more pix than I posted in JowettTalk, so it's not a problem as far as I can see.
Tony.

Re: Orginality Queries
You do not have to put anything into any of the fields when you upload; but it helps to title the picture (rather than just leaving it with some number your picture capturing software has labelled it), add a bit more in the way of summary, or even more if there is a story to tell. You can also add keywords so that the subject can be filed appropriately. Remember the Gallery is there as the archive hence it has these facilities. This is all part of your contribution to the club and the Jowett community.
Others can then comment on the item so the conversation is attached to the item rather than being spread across a topic in JowettTalk (although the item can still be referenced from a JowettTalk topic). The items in the Gallery can also be reorganised to put them in the most desired filing cabinets. For instance, by taking an item in a personal album and putting it into a technical library.
So please take the extra time to do this.

Re: Orginality Queries
What extra switches would have been added to the dashboard and where would they have been located, for example the trafficators were an extra on some cars, where would the switch have been placed on the dash? I have a hole for the washer pump/switch but thats about the the only hole I know of, my current set up is a small facia type plate with switch holes located underneath the oval instrument panel. I'm wondering how original this is/was?
Also what type of mirrors would have featured on the car, and where would they have been mounted, my guess is they would be wing mounted, but from looking around the wing when doing the body work there are no holes where such mirrors could have been fitted, perhaps they are mounted somewhere else?
Heres a photo from new years day, a local club held a meet, was quite a big turn out around 400 vehicles turned up, various classics, commercials, tractors and a few steam engines. Have covered a little over 200 miles since the Mot last september, and is still going well, having been slowly sorting more detail things out, recently replaced the distributor base plate as mine was missing a corner, this has improved the running. Things seem to be progressing well, I am looking forward to the season ahead.

Re: Orginality Queries
various period photos of brand new 1934 cars show only the interior mirror fitted as standaard so anything else would presumably be an aftermarket addition of either a wing mirror or a door or screen piller mounted mirror. It would appear from raod test & publicity pics that 1928,29 &31 fabric saloons had a small circular mirror mounted high up on screen piller on drivers side but the original '27 greenhouse did not. All other pre war saloons had only the interior mirror . However the 1935 weazel and flying fox ( & therefore probably/possibly the rest of the focus/flying fox brigade) are shown with a small circular mirror mounted high up on the of the windscreen piller on the drivers side presumably because of the crap visibility through small window in hood.
Indicators were only fitted as stqandard for the 1935 season i.e. cross braced chassis models. The switch was mounted on the dashbord between the drivers cubby hole and the door and below the centreline of the cubby hole. I think this is the place most people would have put a switch if fitting after market indicators on screen pillers or much later on if fitting flashers. There are no 'official' places for any contemporary or modern additions & my prefernce would be to mount new switches gueages or whatever on brackets bellow the dashboard so as to preserve originality. If on the other hand an extra has been installed for 40 or 50 years it would seem ri;ght to seee it as a proper period modification & keep it as is.

How about the tail tale, mirrors how were they mounted? Were they standard.?
As for the mounting off the pillar, I guess they were mounted to an arm which came off the the a post?

Does anyone happen to know where or if the doors had rubber buffers and which positions they would be put into? on the body or the door? Many thanks, Alan

Re: Orginality Queries
Another question on details, What type of gasket does the petrol sender unit have? Is it a paper or a cork one? And does it sit inbetween the petrol sender and the tank? Or between the petrol sender and its top hat with the windings in for the connection to the gauge? Very curious to get this right, I don't like playing around with wiring and petrol tanks at the best of times. Also how accurate are the gauges? Were they back then?
