I'm envious Keith, in my opinion the most beautiful country in the world. Some lovely pics, thanks for sharing them!

I made it to the very North of New Zealand after enjoying a spirited drive in the Toyota 86, which has remarkable road holding and plenty of oooomph.
We visited Peter Wilding and tried to get his Javelin going, but failed.
Various stops along the way up and back to Cape Reinga. Now in Kaitaia motel after a 4 course meal having skipped lunch.Succulent scallops filled by housing pork belly.

A rainy day.

NZ suffers from many closed roads which can mean detours of perhaps 100 miles. The main highway north has been closed for a while so at least it was easy to plan a route that did not mean that extra mileage. It also meant seeing parts that we might have missed.
Yesterday we visited a couple of club members, Bobby Yon and Bryan Walker on our way back to encourage them to get on with their projects. The green uranium glass and Edison phonograph are in Bryan's collection.

The highlight for me was seeing a critically endangered species in the wild. Only 900 bitterns remain. https://kiwicoast.org.nz/bittern-matuku ... rds%20left.

I saw them crossing an estuary on the bay of Islands vintage railway from Kawakawa to Te Karaoke. Not under steam unfortunately as the veteran engine driver with a steam certificate had recently died. But young blood has been trained up and so should be steamed up again soon.

The train runs down the centre of highway 1 so taking a picture of Hunterwasser's toilet down the main street was easy.

For those wanting seat runners, Brian Walker has used MG ones from Moss.

Neil enjoying a glass of McCleod double IPA and very nice too , it was.

The morning was slave labour removing wisteria and putting into Les Johns trailer .

Then a trip to see the Auckland Youth Orchestra performing Mahler, Dvorak and Haydn.

A celebration for Keith leaving

Post by Keith Clements »

A celebration for Keith leaving was held with a roast lamb dinner ( lamb from Denise's daughter's farm) and cake made by Dennise from Feijoa and ginger. Lots 💘 fizz, beer, and wine and company from Les and Lorna.

But that was after a day at the Maritime museum with a cruise in a launch used as an ambulance in the first world war.

A visit to a rubber CNC machinist was not fruitful as they cannot machine anything less than 85 shore hardness and the midship bearing support requires 45 shore.

On then to Colin Howard's workshop where he builds 1930s Alfas. Amazingly Colin worked at Aubrey Finberg's Classic Autos in Kings Langley and is now married to Neil's daughter Jane.

The CDr3 was created by Vic Morrison. There are a few articles on it. I have driven it and there should be some pics in my previous NZ rally adventure.

I used the Search Archive button on the opening page and found the articles with cdr3 as the search term.

Thanks for the pics Keith, brought back very fond memories of my time working as a sommelier at the Duke of Marlborough Hotel in Russel 30 years ago!
