Paul:-
Welcome to the website - and to the Club too I hope?
I have a 1930 fabric saloon down here in Eastbourne. I have been trying to find a set of points for mine - the ones with the screw-mounted fixed contact and the moving contact with a fibre 'peg'.
if your are this type can you please advise where you found them and if this is a 'one off' source?
I see you are in Kent, where there are a number of Jowetteers mostly with Javelins. If this is East Kent you may like to catch up with some of us pre-wars 'over the border'!
Either way, I hope you get lots of enjoyment with your car which appears to have quite an interesting history.
Keep us all in the picture!
Regards, Ian Howell

Re: 1928 Jowett 7hp Long 2 Tourer
Paul - a big welcome to the Jowett world...and in particular to the pre-war side. I am a recent Joweteer, based in Sussex and have a 1930 Chummy (Eddie) which gets used regularly in many forms. Where about in Kent are you? There are 3 x 1930 Jowetts aiming to meet at Horstead Keynes station, Bluebell Railway on Sunday, 12th Aug. You are welcome to join if you would like.
I would echo a few points here:
- I am a JCC member and it is well worth it. Not just cos they are a very friendly and knowledgeable lot, but the spares section runs far and wide in the club. Someone knows someone who knows...etc...you get my drift.
- Eddie also arose from infrequent use, and “yes” our coil broke down on our first long journey. Whilst you will be amazed at how quickly a breakdown truck can arrive when they here the term pre-war Jowett - even at rush hour on a Friday, very few now carry 6V kit. So having a spare 6V is a must in my eyes. My advice is to avoid the cheaper ones off of eBay though, they are not always wound correctly and so the voltage output quality can be frustratingly variable or worse they fail due to poor insulation on the coils and can even catch fire.
- The same goes for the regulator cut-out unit. Used ones can be hard to track down in known, reliable form. Even though the Asian copies are half the price of a recon, compared to the cost of a new battery and reliability of output I would either go for a Lucas rewind or solid state unit to avoid frustrating electrical issues and damage to the battery.
- with any of the above, the JCC spares can do things no other spares dept can! And they too are very knowledgeable and reasonable.
Anyway, welcome and happy Jowetting.

Re: 1928 Jowett 7hp Long 2 Tourer
I’m actually based between Medway and North London. The car is in Kent at the moment but will be heading for Enfield mid August! My first love is steam, so I’ve lots of friends in Sussex with traction engines and I’m sure it will be making regular trips over the border! The first outing will be to the Weald of Kent show at woodchurch in August. Unfortunately I’ve got a commitment on the 12th meaning the car will be in the garage but next time!
In regards to points etc. I haven’t actually received them yet however I’m fairly certain mine are the same as these (which is what I’ve ordered!
Points: ST361 £14.50 select Option 1 on this page http://www.jbvintagespares.co.uk/shop/4 ... ts/1335392
Condenser http://www.jbvintagespares.co.uk/shop/4 ... 08/1212136
Cheers
