Studies of wild animals show if they eat something and get sick they will advoid that area...

Yrs ago we had very agressive unfenced dogs next door..
"Here doggie here doggie" a thru a mouth ful of meat with nutmeg in to them

Was hopping round with rage on Saturday, took the cover off the super-scoot to give her a clean to go on the Wirral Egg Run and found muddy cat prints on the seat and pillion. There was also a disgusting smelly fresh liquid sprayed on the vinyl of the engine casing and running down on to the footboards !
I have been leaving a tablespoonful of Felix in a heavy ashtray on a towel on the Javelin bonnet and it has been eaten every night until I started putting the nutmeg in. They have been there as the meat has been left on the towel.
I wondered about a plastic pot about 4 inches across, with a steel bolt in opposite sides, containing a bit of food. The bolts would be connected to the pos and neg of a 240 volt supply. I wonder, however, if it would just make the cats head explode and leave me with a major cleaning job !
I think it's going to have to be gates in the end.
Incidentally, 8500 bikes attended the Wirral Run and at least £12000 was made for the childrens hospital at Clatterbridge, although they're still adding up.
I wonder if there may be a PIR detector on the market sensitive enough to pick up a cat. I could easily rig up a water spray above the car to fire automatically. trouble is, I don't have a cat to test the settings of a normal 'human' one.

Cats dogs...on a car
Think about this..we have 4 avairies with around 70 odd parrots, some worth 1000s dollars...
plus the camaro, bradford and 3 other cars
All on 1500m sq section
If anyone NEEDS to sort a cat /dog problem..espec considering the parrots..
Most of our 'experiance' has been consulting other parrot breeders who deal in birds wirth 10s of 1000s of dollars each
Anything sort of stock (cows etc) electric fences is sure to give on going headaches...been there done that.
We did have 1 cat yts ago that would come inside to take our cats food, and spray etc
I set up a food bowl on tinfoil with a damp tea towel over the tinfoil.
The 'active' end of the electric fence was stuck in the food...the earth to the tinfoil

Rem those cartoons...where the cat jumps a meter into the air, at full running pace, grasping air...Plus where they have a cat fight a big circle of dust with thev odd leg/tail sticking out?
Yep I know where the cartoonists dreamed that up from!!!!

Would have made a brilliant video clip on-line.
What happened to all those cartoons where Tom smacked Jerry with a monster cast iron frying pan without any lasting injury. The best ones, together with Daffy Duck were directed by Fred Quimby. It was the done thing here to leap out of your seat when his name appeared in the credits and shout, as one, 'Good old Fred' Happy days. What about the early Popeyes , the unfortunate Wile E, Coyote and Foghorn Leghorn. I declare, I say I do declare I'd Love to see them again.
All my 5 yr old Grandson wants is these modern, ultra violent trashy sci-fi cartoons. Perhaps there ought to be a 'Grumpy old Jowetteers' page

As mentioned earlier, I have had an ultrasonic device for ther last few years just above the car's roof. Perhaps Manchester cats are harder than your girly Yorkshire versions.
. All it did was keep my daughter awake when she lived here. I couldn't hear it. Research has shown that younger people can pick up sounds that we oldies can't. Perhaps all the cats are geriatric. 
Keith, What voltage did your electric feeding bowl use ? I have a 24 volt dc transformer...would this do? I could test it on the dog but she's on her last legs now and it might just see her off. Now thats a thought...big saving on final vet's bill !

Sorted one problem temporarily by removing the Javelin/cat interface..
As the Jav is off the road for some repairs I have cleared out one of the storage garages next to the car port and pushed her in backwards. I can still work on her by rolling her into the car port.
A strange thing though, I got into the Scenic, which lives on the drive at the front of the house to find muddy cat prints down ( or up ) the screen..
Strange bit is that in spite of being in the rainy city, it has not rained for a couple of weeks and we have been having a mini heatwave. There is no mud or wet soil in the vicinity of the car !
As well as scent glands, do cats have mud glands somewhere in the foot area ? Or do they just bring it with them specially for my cars? Arghhh.
