Re: Alaska by Javelin.
Now in Lake Louise probably the most beautiful view in the world.
This morning we took the gondola up the mountain and looked down at Banff.
Hopefully there are some pictures in the Google drive link. I have had no time to sort and edit.

Monday at Robin and Barbara's house at Prince George . We arrived about two after an uneventful run from Jasper camp ground. Got lost in the camp ground trying to find the shower block, and ran into a deer taking a short cut . It followed me for a while but stopped when I got on the road. Place was a maze! We got away 9ish and after jasper soon came out of the Banff national park and then into British Columbia and back to the LA time zone . It was interesting trip but low cloud so mainly differing forest, farmland, very few towns , and then we were there.
We spent a couple of hours servicing the car, oil change , grease and a few other minor things.
V. Then showers, food and washing, we have been spoiled . Now off to bed after much talking with Robins son and daughter . He works in .alaska so was very helpful. We've done approx 2500 miles from LA so are doing well, cars going good but a bit overloaded , too many clothes!!

My wife and I met you at the Jowett Bash in North Carolina (all four of us!).
I have owned Jupiter 822 since 1963. I drove it in the 60's and 70's in California.
The car is now in restoration. I stopped driving the Jup when I purchased a Lotus Europa. The Europa is a 1973 Twin Cam and we still have it and I am currently
rebuilding the engine.
We plan on traveling to the UK next spring.

Hi All,
When in Whitehorse you might want to go to the territorial liquor store and get a few six packs of Yukon Red. A nice dark beer. A good place to eat is the Klondike Rib and Salmon BBQ.
A few miles east of Whitehorse is Takhini Hot Springs. You can have a hot soak and camp there.
At Paxon Lake on the Richardson Hwy (Alaska Hwy 4 between Delta Junction and Gakona Junction) is the finest beaver dam that I have ever seen. It is a high dam right at the lake shore and the beaver pond looks like an inifinity pool. The pond has been there so long that a tree is growing out of the beaver lodge. At Paxon Lake Campground go up to the tent campground, not the RV campground. From the tent campground walk down to the lake and follow the lake shore to the right to the dam. It is well worth the stop.
Good Luck on the rest of your trip,
Roger

Re: Alaska by Javelin.
Managed to run out of petrol twice today even though detailed calculations indicated we would make it. The first was the 200 m from the station the second about 4km. No problem as we filled up from the can.
Took dinner in an Indian reservation restaurant attached to a gas station. The only food for 60 k and 250 in the direction we are going.
Rain virtually all day. But it eased for 5 mins to get the tent up beside Meziadin Lake with backdrop of ice capped mountains.
Now deciding whether go to Hyder.

another later start, after food shopping, with bigger gaps further north were not sure of meals so have a couple of days of stuff that will keep like can of stew. I tried to sort my Visa card not working in Canada but rang home ( unfortunately at 3.30am so am not top of pops). And will follow that up next area with phone coverage. Bit sparse up here! Thought I'd sorted this in NZ .
We got away about 9.30 heading west on hwy 16. And will be going nth soon on hwy37. It's not a very good sight seeing day, wet and low cloud on the hills so very little photo taking. As we get nearer our camping site at Lake Mesiadin the rain eased and we managed to get the tent up reasonably dry. Prior to this we eat at an Indian reserve service station cafe. Basic a bit like our camp site tonite . Quiet day , We were surprised to have Internet here

Re: Alaska by Javelin.
We found a great campsite next to Boya lake and had a BBQ of pork with Smore marshmallows for pud.
Early morning start came to a halt at the junction of the Alaska highway as we had a flat tyre caused by a leaking valve that popped out. Luckily within half mile of a tyre repair place. But the repair was unsuccessful as the new tube had a leak.
Now in Whitehorse capital of Yukon territory having come here to find a welder to fix the door hinge and to get the tube replaced on a tyre.
Dewey and Lilly split to detour to Skagway.
Other than that the scenery has been outstanding. We have covered 1123 miles since leaving Robin 3 days ago.

Hi all, we are in Whitehorse on the Alaskan highway hwy1 . Over the last couple of days ,today being the 13 th day of our trip and of course today we got some problems., Since leaving the Fairservices at Prince George on Tuesday morning, we set sail along hwy 16. Till we reached hwy 37 at an Indian village of Kitwhanga where we eat(last town before stopping) and turning right headed up o a parks camp ground, very basic, beside a lake. Beautiful setting but only a long drop toilet and a water tap. Rained most of the night. The next day we got on the road seeing the Bear glacier on a side road , then returning to the main hwy 37 heading north. Travelled most of the day with some rain, lie cloud and lots of trees. A few points of interest but mostly keep going. I went into the ladies RV to lighten the loaded javelin and get a little more speed(60 mph limit) and we headed to another parks basic camp ground by Boya lake run by a kiwi! We swapped places in the RV during the day. Then that night which had cleared up nicely we did the fire thing and cooked tea over it, pork chops n veges. A beer and a natter and then we found the broken hinge on the front door bottom. So next dat the 13 th day off again to hwy 1 , 90 odd km away And about half way a flattish back tire. When it was checked with tyre gauge the brass bit bonded to the valve centre blew right out and a flat!? So put on spare and off to the junction of 37 and 1 to a tyre fixit guy there. Well after 1. 1/2 hrs we still had a dodgy spare with a possible nipped tube so kept on going to White horse arriving at 6 pm. The girls had veered off to Scagway tonite as we will be busy tomorrow morning fixing doors and tubes. They will rejoin us pm Friday. Would you believe we met and dined at the same restaurant as two kiwis from Orakei , auckland. We have covered from Prince George tues mng 1629 km. and about 3000ft above sea level. As we approached Whitehorse there were 3 mountains ahead of us , 2 at 15000ft and one at 17500ft Hard to comprehend after all we've seen.
Off to sleep now, 11 ish and still daylight outside ! Neil.

Re: Alaska by Javelin.
An early start to find a tyre repair shop and welder was successful. Lana Fraser of Arctic Blonde Creations did a great job of welding up the hinge. So now on our way to Beaver Creak and the Alaskan border.
We got here after 100 miles of gravel road and have just showered to get rid of the grime and dust.
Off to Buckshot Betties for dinner.
We lost a rear light on the bumpy roads so will have to find something in Fairbanks.

Great pizza that Buckshot Bettie made washed down with some Yukon gold. Now sunbathing at 9.30 in the evening.
