Hi Chris, this is such a comprehensive list and must have taken a lot of time to produce, what a shame so many of these are not advertised in The Jowetteer, but with your help it is keeping the membership up to speed....

It can take up to two months for an advert to get realised in the Jowetteer. Not many people have that long to wait having decided to sell the car. They also usually need to make a decision quickly , perhaps having had an offer, so electronic communication works quickly allowing ammendments to price or availability.

Many of the cars listed are on the open market so this service created by Chris points potential Jowett owners to them. The list encourages buying and selling, provides a reasonable assessment of price and gives a conduit for comment on history and value. This gives confidence to buyers and sellers.

We should not be aiming at selling cars to people who already own a Jowett, but to potential new members. Perhaps some sellers fear that a Jowett will go to someone who will rape the number plate, make it into a hot rod, export it to China or some other undesirable fate and this convinces them to only advertise in the Jowetteer. We need to show there is an active, thriving market in restored Jowetts which make a good investment. We need to show there is an active restoration scene to encourage people to start saving more Jowetts, otherwise they will just go to Jowett heaven and be converted into a new tin box.

Many cars are bought and sold across the world, not just within the same county or country. Knowing what is available in Aus, NZ or USA or the rest of Europe helps meet buyer's desires and gives them more choice.

Keep the monthly updates coming Chris.

Well said Keith!

As regards Bob Lintott's post of 30/9, I can confirm the Javelin for sale is not MNW444, as this car was scrapped in the mid 1960's

Re: The Farr bodied Jupiter. I think this may be the car my father owned in the mid sixties. I remember it then in really quite good condition. I think it broke its crank whilst on holiday here in North Wales and my father bought it. He never did anything to the car and sold it on. I have never before heard any reference to reserve vehicle for the Monte and certainly remember no mods which may have indicated this history. I think photos from that time have been published in the Jowetteer. Richard Turner

We inspected the Staines car a few months ago, I take issue with the seller statement "The bodywork is generally solid, apart from the door bottoms." - this assumes that the patches in the rear arches hide solid metal which I think we can be fairly sure they don't, the front of rear wings is on its way out and it is a clear candidate for bare metal restoration involving a lot of welding.

To put it into perpective, the three cars we have been given free of charge in the last couple of years were both in better condition than this shell.

However, the engine seems ok and it has a meadows box, with a bit of tinkering these could be valuable. There are club stickers and modifications that make a lot of sense for a car that is regularly used and maintained by someone who knows what they are doing, so hopefully its maintenance before being laid up will save a new owner some work.

Sadly the seller bought the car at auction around 12 months ago and the price needs to drop to a point where they will lose quite a lot before it is a sensibly priced restoration project, and I would have some concern that it could drop far enough that selling the mechanical parts separately is worth more than the car.

Jack.

ALJ 164A seems to have picked up an early bonnet and grille on its travels. Though the advert states 1950 (which would fit the appearance) I have it recorded as E2 PD 22467 D. Well into 1952. I think the price could drop considerably before the seller started to show a loss, assuming this is the same owner that bought it at Poole auction in October 2013.

re the Javelin ALJ, I have a note arising from a previous entry "For Sale "some time ago . As commented the body number of this car is E2PD 22467 D , the original reg no was MLJ 200 a Bournemouth series --there was an active Jowett agent in the area --presumably this attractive number was sold off, I seem to recall someone tracked it through the Swansea system to a modern Toyota!

Javelins with nearby body numbers were registered in Sept/Oct 1952 so it is certainly not a 1950 model. .In the 2008 register the adjacent numbers are 22389 and 22513. Bob

ALJ was bought at auction in Oct 2013 for £750 - so has Nick quite rightly states it could climb well down in price before the vendor is losing money (assuming it is the same person who purchased at auction in the first place) - However, quite strangely the listing was ended on E bay within a short period - I very much doubt that it has sold at the price listed.

Hello Richard - welcome to the forum!

Having seen the car I am quite sure that joining the club will be of benefit to you, the spares availability will make this project go much more smoothly. I am quite sure that this car will be known to the Javelin Registrar (details in the front of the monthly newsletter, the Jowetteer) as it had club stickers and should be known to us.

It is probably worth a new thread specifically on the car, and members around the world can assist wherever possible. Where are you in the country? There is a loose plan to have a technical day in January working on a Javelin and no doubt many other things, and it might give you a good chance to discuss specific problems you encounter as you progress with it.

I imagine it is an ideal project for someone keen on bodywork - given the condition of the rear arches I'd consider Envirostrip to take it to bare metal - they have done a good job on two of our cars so far.

Jack.

Hello Richard, and welcome to the Club and this forum. There's a wealth of information on this site, and if it's not there, help will be only a telephone call away.
