Costs £4 if you are not the owner, but it would be difficult to tell if you were not, especially if you went to an Internet Cafe. But beware if you fraudulently said you were the owner when using your home computer!

Also beware that if you have a car taxed but not insured, even for a day, you will be fined. So SORN it, if it is not insured.

So can you take out insurance for the insurance company not putting your car on the database? What a great new product for them!

I've been using ASKMID for years, sometimes to search for a reg number from the past. I've never heard anything from them by way of a fee to pay.

Another aspect of dropping off the database is that you could receive an ' insurance sorn ' fine. I don't know how long I'd been off...could have been a couple of months. I checked ASKMID a few days after taking out the policy and I was on then. A sorn fine should be easy to deal with and, at least, you don't get your car nabbed off the road.

I insured the long two with FJ a couple of months ago as a new customer, for what I thought was a very reasonable £112. I'm 48, clean license, no claims. Reading these comments, it will be interesting to see what the renewal will be - I wonder if my quote will double given others experience.
