With this month’s JOWETTEER you will find two books of raffle tickets in support of the 2011 JOWETT CAR CLUB RALLY. It would help us tremendously if you could send in your payments and counterfoils as soon as you can. Please return the counterfoils along with payments by the 14 May 2011 at the very latest to –

Thank you for your support-
HERITAGE MOTOR CENTRE, Gaydon, Saturday 28th May
JOWETT CAR CLUB CONCOURS d’elegance and Display
The registrations forms were included within the November JOWETTEER and David Grounds is pleased to report that entries are rolling in. It might be the appropriate time to remind entrants that to ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible we do need to have a number of site marshals and judges for the Concours. The registration form has an invitation on page 4 for your careful considerations and we would really appreciate your support.
A team of Marshalls will be required for about an hour from say 9.15 am to direct the Jowetts as they arrive into position within the Arena. The appropriate signage will be in place to denote the category / Class and it is expected that all vehicles will be in place by 10.30am.
A team of JUDGES working in pairs and following a pre-printed protocol are required to undertake the Concours section of the event with each pair of Judges working on one specific Class. This is anticipated to begin at 11.30 -12noon and would take about 1 - 1½ hours. A light lunch can be provided as a gesture of our thanks. I will happily forward a sample Judging Sheet for your reference and to assist your considerations.
We have provisionally planned a programme for the day that will culminate in the Jowett Car Club’s Javelin Concours Awards being presented by Celia Palmer, the Daughter of Gerald Palmer
Have a look at the Jowett website http://www.jowett.org and go to JowettTalk- view forum- UK Events and Rally -Jowett Annual Weekend Daventry May 2011 – for further reference and updates.
GP100-
We are delighted to report that GP100 event to celebrate the centenary of the birth of “Auto Architect” Gerald Palmer (1911 -1999), designer of the iconic Jowett Javelin, is aligning nicely with our JOWETT CAR CLUB Display and Concours d’elegance at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon on Saturday 28th May. Already there has been significant interest from the “Classic Car Press” who are clearly seeing this aligned event as a major calendar entry for 2011.
It will be a great opportunity to experience a wide range of vehicles including Wolseley 4/44, Riley Pathfinder , MG Z-Magnette, Vauxhall FB and HA that have direct links to this engineering legend.
Please take a look at the their website http://www.gp100.org for further information
For those Javelins that have achieved top JCC Concours Trophies in previous years and therefore may not have entered the JCC 2011 Concours d’elegance, the GP100 organisers are able to offer an alternative category for this event only. Because of this significant anniversary, a number of selected Javelins will be deemed to represent some of the finest examples of the model and will be place alongside other fine examples from the drawing board of the “Auto- Architect” Gerald Palmer. Call it a MASTER CLASS if you will, with the highest scoring car from each group of the models of MG Magnette, Wolseley 4/44 ,Riley Pathfinder and Jowett Javelin being awarded a top honour, The “Gerald Palmer Trophy”. Celia Palmer, Gerald’s daughter will be presenting the trophies later in the afternoon. If you would like to be considered for this unique category please clearly mark your Registration Form GP100 when you complete the vehicle details.
It is pleasing to report that the bookings continue to come in and we would respectfully remind you that, by the time you read this, there will be 12 weeks in which to complete any outstanding bookings before we have to close the reservations. We would encourage those who are yet to make their reservations to complete their booking form as soon as possible to avoid any disappointment. We have instigated a number of options along with alternative methods of payments and should you have mislaid the Accommodation Booking form or the Vehicle Display and Concours d’elegance Registration Form, please give me a call or email and we will send out a replacement.

Re: Jowett Annual Weekend, Daventry, May 2011
Well - A few weeks to go to the annual rally and you are all very, very quiet - I assume that you are all in busy fettling mode - too busy to post anything ? - well you maybe reading it none the less. Family Clements and myself (the hanger on) are all very busy - preparing the Jowett fleet and we hopefully will have a very special new project launch at the rally. I have also been busy preparing the other member of my own fleet (has the 8 remains untouched) - the Rover has all new ignition bits - has the engine had started to miss when hot (coil I think but everything else got changed anyway it was all original - hence 38 years old) - new water pump (nothing wrong with old standard one but the new one is high volume in attempt to deal with the higher temps that the modern fuels burn at) - a good polish is all that is required now.
Nice to see the rally mentioned in the events diary (page 19) of the June edition of Classic & Sports Car - so let's be hearing from you - are you all organised and ready for the off ? or are you battling against time with the car in peices and parts not arriving in time ?

Re: Jowett Annual Weekend, Daventry, May 2011
Please don't confuse the two seperate events. GP100 and the Jowett Car Club National Rally have alingned their Concours d'elegance and Vehicle displays at The Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon on Saturday 28th May 2011. Apart from this alignment for this unique occasion the two events have their own quite seperate arrangements regarding accommodation, evening dinners and scenic road runs.
Please direct your enquiry to the GP 100 team at http://www.gp100.org
Hope this helps

Thanks Craig, but I scoured the Jowetteer and this topic to answer the question and that is all I could find.
Is there a timetable that could be posted here please?

Re: Jowett Annual Weekend, Daventry, May 2011
Well, what a weekend. Just got home from an, erm, interesting drive home from Staverton Park.
Great work from Craig and the rally organising committee, another great event, the GP100 event was very good, and inclusion of other car clubs really added something different to the weekend.
The weekend started last week, with evenings being spent finishing off a number of little jobs to get the SC ready - the hood had just been fitted, and we were still nailing the front edge into the oak on Thursday, and fitting the steering wheel. That's how tight it was. Again...
Luckily I had been able to work from home on Friday, which meant I could go for a test drive in the SA, which I'd never driven before, and move it to the flat to get some packing done before Amy got home from a week in Plymouth running a training course.
Keith, Jen, Chris and Sharon were on the road shortly after lunchtime in the Javelin and Chris' Rover, leaving me and Amy to follow in the Jupiters.
We finally got all the bags packed, including some very conveniently designed back shelf bags that went onto the SC shelf comfortably and fitted like they grew there. The suit bag wasn't quite as well suited to the boot in the SA, but after a bit of grunting, moving the seat forward, tipping them forward as far as I could, and a bit of swearing, the big bag was in.
Up to the garage to collect the SA, which still had paint drying after a last minute touch up on a few marks on the paint that morning.
A few minutes later and we were on the road to Daventry. A short hop up the A5 for us, one of the more convenient rally locations of recent years. I was still learning fast, gear changes were one of the big changes for me, but also getting used to a stiff throttle pedal and binary clutch - on or off. I am planning a bit of a "how to drive a Jupiter" guide for novice drivers at some point.
Amy was in front, partly because she had the sat nav, but also it made navigation one less thing for me to think about. By the time we got to Daventry I had got the hang of the gearchange, and was enjoying the open road in 4th gear and having the top down in the sunshine. Which is, let's face it, what it's all about.
We arrived just in time to check into the room, pick up our rally packs, and head to the bar and dinner. A good buffet meal filled everyone up before we retired to the bar for a few more drinks and discussion of the drive up, plans for the next day, and any last minute jobs that needed doing. Unfortunately these discussions went on for a rather long time, but we were fairly early to bed.
Saturday morning came far too soon for me, and I was dragged out of bed by Amy who had already been out and cleaned her car ready for its first ever entry into the concours. Now we had a hood, we felt like we could enter it and see where we ended up. Despite Chris and Amy's best efforts, I think we lost a few too many points on originality to be able to compete (we didn't have a toolkit, the hood has several additional windows, and there's a few other modifications made for practical reasons) but it was good to see the car shining and with a nice clean and new interior at its best.
The real highlight of the field day this year was the venue - The Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon. http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/
With a huge collection of historic vehicles, several cars from famous films, and displays and exhibitions, there was something for everybody. Another bonus were the panels and speeches from a number of authorities on the subject of Jowett cars, the life of Gerald Palmer, and many other engineering subjects as well.
All of this was part of the GP100 event http://www.gp100.org/ which involved the Jowett Car Club, MGCC Magnette Register, The Wolseley Register, The Riley Motor Club and MGCC Y-Register. It's not often that so many clubs come together in such a way, and the comments and discussion with other members, seeing their cars, and discussion from experts in their fields brought in by them was very welcome.
Saturday evening was a dinner with several bottles of wine, lots of entertaining discussion of the days events and many other things, and then we retired to the bar, where the final of the rugby premiership was on the big screen - Saracens beat Leicester by a narrow margin, but a win is a win, and we are now champions for the first time in a long time.
Saturday night finished with a pink cowboy hat and inevitably a bit of a headache on Sunday morning.
A nice lie-in of sorts for Sunday, where the usual programme had been swapped around for this year and the scenic run was our activity for the day. After another good breakfast, we headed out, with me as navigator in Amy's car, with Chris and Sharon following us along the route.
Only a couple of detours were necessary, and we got where we were going for lunch, a craft centre with restaurant doing lunch. This was very well received, most of us seemed to be rather hungry despite a reasonable breakfast, and some seemed to get through rather a lot of water and juice to put some liquids back into the system.
Andy & Lucy joined us for lunch, and while others headed back to the hotel for a bit of relaxation, others headed in the direction of local shops, we carried on with the route home on the notes. After a little while we refound Chris and Sharon, and travelled in convoy back to the hotel for a bit of a snooze.
Saturday night was the gala dinner, which was good fun, good food, and ended with speeches and a teddy bear. Peter Pfister and his wife Ruth had travelled from Switzerland for the weekend, and have already demonstrated that they will be an asset to the club and very welcome at any club event in future. Their passion and enthusiasm for the cars, club members, and life in general was infectious, and we look forward to seeing them again later this week before they head back to Switzerland. I mention them at this point because every year Danuta makes a teddy bear for the annual rally. It could not have been much more fitting that they won the bear, in its presentation case, however I don't know quite how they will get everything through their baggage allowance - we may be shipping a parcel to Switzerland next week!
A few more drinks, more discussion about our new project, steering wheels, hood fittings, engine rebuilds, and everything else, we headed to bed.
The drive home this morning should have been a mere formality, however we are dealing with Jowetts here. I was comfortable driving the car, Amy's SC had performed flawlessly all weekend, and our previous starting woes seem to have passed. All the cars in fact were starting almost first time all weekend, which reinforces our thoughts that ageing petrol may be part of the problem. The issue started about 500m from the hotel exit, when the SA windscreen wipers decided not to work any more. That would have been fine, except it was pouring with rain. I could live with the odd leak coming from the windscreen. I could live with the slightly restricted space for my knees and lack of radio, unfortunately I could not live without windscreen wipers.
We pulled in, and a few minutes later had worked out that removing the passenger side windscreen wiper meant that the drivers side would work fine. So we went with that.
A short distance down the road Amy's car decided that it quite liked the single winscreen wiper look, and threw its passenger side wiper off. A quick drive back up the road and we had recovered it, so we then travelled back with drivers side only in both cars.
The rain was useful for us, because it meant we could spend the time pootling along the A5 working out where the leaks were. I was rather troubled to discover that Amy's hood had leaked in the middle of the windscreen, after having replaced the front edge batons and the seal only a few weeks ago. We soon found the problem - previously the rear view mirror had been bolted through the top of the screen, leaving a couple of small holes. WIth the old hood design this wasn't an issue, however with the new hood design and seal location, the water hits the winscreen, finds its naughty little way up to the top edge, and then down these holes. This results in a bit of leakage. Never mind, we will fix it.
We arrived home to put the cars back into the garage, and have a relaxing afternoon catching up on various sports events and getting ready for another week at work. A fun weekend, which everybody seemed to enjoy a lot, and we caught up with many friends and have made quite a lot of plans for the next few months.
Jack.

Would it be possible to get a list of concours and club award winners posted on the thread?
It might be a good way to keep a record of these things for the future, but also would help members to know what awards there are for the next rally - perhaps with a brief explanation for some of the club awards that aren't immediately self-explanatory.
Jack.
