Having got my Javelin (‘Yellow Peril’) back on the road after 35years, and having started to recall and revisit all the joys of ensuring she is maintained properly and regularly including greasing etc. I was reminded that some time ago David Morris warned us all about ensuring that the bolt which goes through the brake and clutch pedals beneath the front foot well should be checked for tightness. I have included this is part of my usual checks. Thanks David!
Here is something else which is not included in the manual and not everyone might be aware of but which could have catastrophic results if it is ignored. I remembered it was included in the 1970s JCC Owners Handbook and I thought I should pass on or remind members.
It concerns the front Spring Arm Trunion Bush Bracket. You can find this on the appropriate Front Suspension page in the Spare Parts booklet (item no. 50315). This is secured onto the chassis by four horizontal bolts which screw into the inside of each main frame member and one long vertical screw which passes through the chassis and through a locknut underneath.
The JCC Handbook tells us that failure to ensure that these (especially the vertical one) is tight can lead to cracking of the frame at this point. I then remembered that when I was running ‘Yellow Peril’ and another Javelin regularly, I checked those bolts for tightness as part of my usual checks.
Thanks
Paul

Re: WARNING Javelin owners
I will second the recommendation about checking the bolts that secure the front spring arm trunion bush; my Javelin chassis cracked in this location because I failed to check that the bolts were tight.

Similar thing with the Jupiter. The bolt goes through the chassis tube and can shear within the tube.
Phillip.
What happened to your Javelin. Did it get scrapped?

No, I was able to make a repair to the cracked chassis with welding, and continued to drive it. What happened to the car ultimately after I sold it in 1975 when I moved to the US, I don't know.
