Silverstone Classic, 23-25 July 2010

Post by Amy »

This has been raised in another thread (http://jowett.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1615), but it seemed that it needed mention in this section as it is very much a UK event. The Silverstone Classic - http://www.silverstoneclassic.com/ - is being held in two weekends' time and seems to feature all major UK car clubs, with one very notable exception and for which 2010 is its Centenary Year.

Any guesses as to which club isn't currently on the attendance list? See if you can spot it: http://www.silverstoneclassic.com/participateclub

It looks like a cracking weekend, and would be much the poorer were there to be no Jowetts in attendance, and even worse, no club stand. So - can we get in touch with the Committee and organise a formal presence PDQ? Failing that, are there are other willing attendees?

Jack and I are free and would happily go along in TTD88 - representative Javelins and pre-wars would be really good to see too.

Any takers?

Have spoken to a person with good connections regarding a slot in club section & we are waaayyy too late in making an enquiry. :( Perhaps the club should look into registering for this event to ensure possible place allocation next year!!! After all, any major event like this will help raise our profile & what we want are more & younger members.

We are currently exploring the option of putting a car or two on the stand with clubs already registered, obviously those covering multiple marques of appropriate age.

This may be possible, it may not, but we should explore it. Will report back if we hear from the clubs we have contacted.

We could also find some friendly car clubs that may want to go in on events in the future, getting a good turnout can be a challenge for any club.

Ok I give in - I have bitten my tongue for too long on this one - I have waited along with many others for several months for the JOC publicity stream to kick in but it is just not happening - any one got any clues on what the agenda is or is it as I fear - we have not got a national publicity agenda / campaign for our centernary year ?

Oh dear, that's a great shame :( Thanks for doing some digging into it though.

I've signed up to the email list that's on the site, hopefully I'll get advance notice of next year's event. It does seem a pity that we've missed out on what is apparently the biggest classic car event in Europe.

Goodwood Revival? 17th-19th September. http://www.goodwood.co.uk/revival/welcome.aspx

I think this could be a great opportunity for us to really pull out all the stops - everyone will have had the summer to prepare vehicles, plenty of options for staying over, they must be interested in the Jowett centenary, advertise the club and how to join, get some great promotional photos for the new website, sounds perfect.

It's not like we're short of a good personal relationship with them either, I know we are providing cars for the Vintage festival, and have been regulars at the event for years.

They're not short of space, so why don't we see what we can do about getting a great display of period cars on show?

There are already a number of Jowetts booked in. I have purchased tickets for some. Note if you are going please let me know in good time. I will be doing the usual taxiing of VIPs, will be camping, so come and pitch next to me, or at least far enough away so I do not keep you awake.

Classic cars park at bottom of the hill on right coming from horse race course. Last year most Jowett owners parked in car park outside GAte 1 wher you find me doing the JAvelin Taxi.

Come camp next to me, it is usually good fun. No rain I hope....

Hi Keith,

Great news, count me and Amy in and let me know how much I owe you etc.

Something that really helps on other boards I am involved in is to have a list of who is coming, so others know how many will be there and so they can see if one of their mates is on the list - and also who they can contact about carshares and other arrangements, tent sharing etc. Can you update this list with any members/cars you know will be there?

1. Keith (Javelin Taxi, camping)
2 Amy (Jupiter SC, camping)
3. Jack, camping
4. ???

The info previously given was for Goodwood not Silverstone. Just in case you were confused.

Suggest we open a separate thread for this planned trip, otherwise this is going to get confusing really quickly for those who haven't followed the complete thread :)
