Long lost owner!

Post by Alastair Gregg »

From Chris Taylor

I used to own a two cylinder Jowett 7HP saloon reg. no JR 400. I gave it away to an enthusiast in Middlesbrough but I kept the Klaxon and the book of Jowett Javelin, Jupiter, Bradford and Earlier Cars by Staton Abbey (pulished by Pitmans circa 1937/1959)
Do any of your club members want these ? How can I find out if my car JR 400 still extant?

If anyone can help please I will pass on the Phone number. This was received at www.jowettnorthwest.co.uk

From which years did he pass on/own the car? Ive just had a look through an early 1966 listing and 1999 listing but nothing in those, But not sure about in between....

Stockton on Tees calling.

The answer :-

Alastair,
Many thanks for your help and for posting my enquiry about my Jowett 7 on your website. However please note that the Registration was JR 400, not AJ 400.

From memory I think I had the car from 1962 to 1965 (my brother John had it for about 4 years before me) I advertized it "Free to good home" and obviously had a lot of chancers but I eventually gave it away to a couple of guys from Stockton-upon-Tees who seemed genuinely keen to restore it. Sorry, I forget thier names.

It didn't need a lot of work but the crankshaft kept coming loose and I was newly married, had an MG TC and did'nt know how to fix the fault (T'was the key to the flywheel which was sheared longitudinally but I only realized this many years later. Could have been easily fixed!) I had painted the car Sky Blue with Buttercup Yellow wheels and a Chequered Flag radiator - drew many an envious eye, I thought. Must see if I can find a photo sometime. Be a pity if it was scrapped, we had lots of fun in that car as youngsters.

Regards, Chris.
