Bradford owners

Post by PAUL BEAUMONT »

Just thought that it was about time someone posted something here, just to prove that we are not as antidiluvian as our vehicles mich suggest. Any more Bradford owners out there?

I thought the big ZERO would prompt some action. But let us put something useful on here. How many Bradfords are on the road, being restored, being used commercially? How about a few photos?

I'm a bit up to my eyes in 2006 Rally at the moment, but I will see what I can do. There are several Bradfords undergoing major renovation at present, but mention must be made of Roger Young. Roger has just completed the resurrection of Bill Purves LS. This is a credit to him. Seek out April's copy of Classic Van and Pick-up for the story. Roger is trying to get his new lorry finished for the Rally. Last time I saw it (when he bought it) it was an absolute wreck. If it makes Bingley he deserves a medal!!

Must say i feel the saftey aspect of them now in todays modern trafic on the main roads.
Still great fun on the byeways though.
Used it as a test bed for the LPG worked well but soon learnt that you need vaporisers as the tank became a block of ice.
Back to conventinal method now.
But running LPG on my 6.75 litre cars with great success.

Now a topic maybe Oil next when time Pat.

Hi Pat, I see from your profile that you claim to be retired!! Glad to hear that you still have the Bradford (you need to register it with me!!) I know what you mean by safety. I was out in mine last year and driving thru one of those silly chicanes for traffic calming with signs clearly saying that I had the right of way, some numsey in a Golf drove straight at me. Maybe We should carry a copy of the highway code!.

Oil: I assume that you are talking engine oil? Here I suspect that it depends on the model. A CC with a Javelin-ish bottom end probably likes a modern-ish 20-50. For my CB I prefer to stick to the good old straight 40 grades from Morris' or Millers in Brighouse. They are in my back yard so they tend to be my preference (Diary note solicit them for Rally 2006 programme ad!)
I did hear recently of someone proposing to modify their CB rods to fit shells - Dangerous I reckon without a full flow filter. Debating point?

Bradford

There are two Bradford-on-the-road owners up here in Finland.
And some that willnever get their Bradfords on the road, because they have more brains than I and my friend.

Well hello to Finland.

It's quite remarkable that someone from a country other than Scotland has an interest in both the Jowett Bradford and boating! If Bill and Sandra, who live in Edinburgh (Scotland), get to know about this from their section members, you will never be "the lone teen ranger" again. Even if you have already joined the Jowett Car Club and Bill and Sandra never get to know you, at least you will have about 600 Jowett enthusiasts who will try to help whenever you have a problem.

Welcome to JowettTalk.

Regards,

Tony Fearn

P.S. I tried Altavista Babelfish to reply in your language, but the site does not translate from English to your language. Sorry. Thank goodness your English is impeccable.

Jorma can probably speak for himself. But he is a very long term member of the club and knows B&S. See the post about our transcontinental Noggin & Natter on Skype had between UK, Canada and Finland yesterday.
