Hi everyone,
We have just been informed that the 30th Footman James Bristol Classic Car Show, due to be held this weekend, the 7th and 8th February 2009, has had to be postponed, due to the very difficult weather in the region.
We had planned to have a Severnside Section stand at the show as usual and were all packed ready to go and prepare the stand this morning. However, the depth of snow made getting the trailer out of our side lane in Combe Down impossible and John Airey, who with Di had kindly offered to show their Javelin ( RPE 678 ) on the stand, would also probably have had difficulties coming across from Swindon.
Our joint concerns were confirmed when the news came through, just before we thought of both setting off from home, that the show has had to be postponed until a later date. The reasons given were the H&S concerns from the owners of the site, which would have made getting on and off the site very hazardous.
Perhaps we shall see you there later in the year, when we know the new dates?
All the best,
David & Juliet

Bristol Classic postponement
Hello David and Juliet.
Please post the new date for the show as and when you know it.
It seems such a long time ago since Bernard (Gillett) and myself used to come down to Bristol to help with the show, whilst partaking of the absolutely wonderful hospitality at 57, Churchill Road, Brislington. I think it was the early 80's.
My memories of Ken Warren helping to man the stand shortly before he died are still very strong.
Another of my abiding memories is the descent of a vintage long four down the rather damp 1:4 ramp from the upper floor of the exhibition hall at the end of the weekend. The rear-only brakes had no effect on arresting the descent, and with handbrake and transmision brake fully on, and extremely slippery planks on the Heath Robinson ramp, the car just slid onto the street at about 20 mph. against the flow of traffic.
Fortunately there was'nt any traffic coming down the street at that precise moment!!
As you say, "perhaps you will see us there later in the year".
Best wishes,
Tony.

Hi Tony,
Many thanks for your post. Yes, we remember you at the Watershed in Bristol and the shows we both attended there. It was, on balance, I think a much better venue than the Bath & West Showground, especially for the ladies with Bristol and the shops on the doorstep!
As you say, the problem was that the show cars were on the first floor and that scaffolding ramp on the outside of the building was lethal, especially with some light greasy rain on the planks!
The show this year has been rearranged for the Bank Holiday weekend of 2nd, 3rd and 4th May 2009 and will be at the Bath & West Showground at Shepton Mallet. We plan to have a stand there and will gladly welcome all members who would like to come.
With a bit of luck, the weather will be fine and the organisers may well move the dates to this time of year in the future, to avoid a repetition of this year and the snow!
All the best,
David
