Javelin for sale

Post by David Morris »

Hi there,

Just thought that I should mention that there is a 1949 Javelin for sale on eBay at present.

The eBay reference number is 150306808256 and it is currently asking for a first bid at £2000. The chassis number is D9PA427, so it is an early one, before they were offered in De Luxe or Standard options.

The registration number looks like GUK 92 from the photos on eBay. The seller mentions that he bought it as a runner with an MoT, but that he has since had engine problems and has failed to get it running correctly.

The car is based at Warminster in Wiltshire and there are five days to go on the auction. From the photos it looks in quite good condition, but that is very hard to tell. The vendor adds that there is at least one spare engine and parts of a third with the car and a spare gearbox. He adds that the car came to him a year ago, as 'restored' by a mechanic.

I have absolutely no connection with the vendor, but thought that someone might be looking for a winter project!

I might add that Warminster is not a million miles from Bath, [ about 10 in fact ] if anybody wanted me to have a first look at the car on their behalf!

All the best,

David

Javelin on ebay

Post by Dave Frost »

Hi David, I have been looking at the car on ebay and wondered if you have already or would take a look at the car on my behalf. I am most concerned about what lies beneath that green paint, ie has it covered much filler. Also what is the chassis like. Hope you can help, regards, Dave

Javelin for sale

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply.

I have e-mailed the vendor of the Javelin and will try and arrange to go over and examine the car before the auction ends, on your behalf.

Perhaps you could let me have your e-mail address, so I can contact you and hopefully send you a report?

All the best,

David

Javelin for sale

Hi Dave,

Slight update to my previous post. I have managed to contact the vendor and have agreed to view the Javelin tomorrow.

John Airey plans to come over from Swindon as well, so we shall have the benefit of two pairs of eyes!

Will keep you posted, but your e-mail address would be handy to show you any photos.

All the best,

David

Hi Dave (Frost)

Looking at your post I wonder why don't you wait for the Bradford you want?

A bradford is sooooooo much more simple and easy to work on than a Javelin.

Just be patient, and remember what Mr. Micawber said.

Regards,

Tony.

Javelin for Sale

Post by David Morris »

Hi there,

Just to give you an update - the Javelin was sold on eBay last evening.

I believe the new owner is already in the Jowett Car Club and I wish him every success. The car has great potential and if I were looking for a Javelin, I would have been very keen to bid myself.

I look forward now to seeing the car on the road and future JCC meetings. If the new owner is interested, do contact me as I have some 45 photos of the car in its present condition that John Airey and I took to send to Dave Frost. I could easily send you a disk, but fear that my lack of necessary computer skills would prevent me adding them to the Gallery.

I think in the meanwhile Tony Fearn has been rather successful in encouraging Dave Frost to look for a Bradford rather than a Javelin - good hunting Dave!

All the best,

David
