CA Bradford Oil Pressure Relief Valve
Any tips on how to remove the Plunger from the Relief Valve body ?. Removed the adjuster, got the spring out with difficulty, in two parts. One part was stuck in the adjuster and turned with it, breaking in half !. Other half was stuck within the valve bore, presumable in the plunger. but the plunger wont budge, hence my question. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks. Note: this is from an engine that has was in a scrapyard before I rescued it about 20 odd years ago, hence everything being 'solid'.

Hi 1942kemp1942,
I guess the oil relief valve on your CA engine is similar to that on my 1943 Jowett Stationary engine? The instructions in the instruction manual for this engine, when setting the relief valve, are :
Oil Pressure Release Valve. This is set to release at the correct
pressure. Should adjustment be required, it is necessary to loosen
the hexagon lock nut and turn the adjusting screw by means
of a screwdriver until the correct pressure is obtained. Then
tighten the lock nut. The pressure should not be less than
25 Ibs. per square inch when the engIne has attained the normal
running temperature.
Mine runs at 60 lbs/inch and I havn't had the courage to reduce it! In the manual, there are several instances where non-compliance with the required result carries the instruction "return unit to the factory". I suspect that guarantee has worn thin by now? I doubt Morrison's at the factory site would be able to help?
All the best for 2026! Best wishes, David

Re: CA Bradford Oil Pressure Relief Valve
Thanks David. I have it in bits but the plunger won't come out. Have tried heat and lubriation and banging it !. The plunger itself appears to be ferrous metal and have some corrosion on it. It's not urgent since it's off of an engine I saved from a scrapyard but have no use for. I took it apart to see the construction since the one on my CA is leaking oil. Will persevere. Seasons greetings to you and have a great 2026.
